She got a flu shot on Saturday.

She sounds weak, and thinks it is due to the shot.

What point- what do I look for.  She wanted to take a nap and I told her it was a good idea.

She has had shots before and never had a re-action.

I fear for her life if she's taking medical advice from you.

It is a killed virus and she could not have contracted the disease from it. However she may already have been exposed but not yet with symptoms when she got the shot.

Dehydration is a major concern of the elderly. If she's literally too weak to get a glass of water, call an ambulance.

Otherwise have her place a call to her doctor's office, telling the nurse her symptoms. How high is her fever? The docot's office will tell you how high is too high.

Or she may have something completely unrelated to her flu shot.  After 77 years on this earth has she forgotten what to do when she has the flu??

Bring her some hot chicken soup. Or a grog: a tall glass with some strong alcoholic drink, the juice of a lemon, a couple of tea spoons of honey or simply a lot of sugar, and fill up the remainder of the glass with hot water. Next into bed. (Russians take a hot shower before they drink the grog.)

WTF?

You have no clue if that woman has diabetes or what medications she may be on that could prevent any alcohol intake.

And you claim to be a super-genious?

"Next into bed"???? Are you suggesting that he shag her? Shame on you. Shame

Hey, 77 year old women need luvin too... but I'm not sure PA is down for the femme action....no matter the age! I bet a hot sexy bod to snuggle up with and a hot toddy would be just what the doctor ordered. Would be for me anyway!

At college I took a course on sports massage in the mistaken belief that I'd be pressing my hands against the pert firm bodies of the student nurses I knew had to take the course.

Only we practised on the residents of a local home for the elderly.

I still wake up screaming.

Hah! I wonder if I can volunteer to be a massage victim...I wouldn't mind having college men's hands fumbling over me ...

If she's a little disoriented, she would forget.

The flu is nothing to be taken lightly - especially with the very young or the very old. Only her doctor would be able to address the correct approach in managing her reaction and/or the onset of full blown flu. You should really put in a call to her doctor if she is unable to do that.

She didn't go to the doctor. We don't know if she has the flu. She's just not in the pink. If she really had contracted influenza I cannot believe there would not have been a call placed to the doctor. The high fever alone should cause that. You'll notice the op hasn't come back to say he drove her to the doctor and it is or isn't anything serious. This should tell us it isn't or she would have gone.

Hello.

I thought I would update a bit.

Her kitchen light was on last night-  I seen her sweep her porch, and now her van is gone.

This tells me she is functional.      We have a buddy system of sorts.    Tho I do not have a key- the other neighbor has the key to her place.

I did not phone, as I did not want to pester her when she was resting.   I was available via phone.

Being that she seems up and around- I will call her later today.

Thorn is correct. She is usually vibrant and full of life- I think most of us are not the clearest thinking when hit with an illness.

She also doesn't have the flu. A 24 hour bug maybe. A touch of a cold or a gastrointestinal upset. But not influenza.

That the flu shot causes the flu is such a lame conspiracy theory and stupid reason why people don't get the flu shot when it could help save their lives.
