Ok- lets spare the list here the same ole- back and forth... we know the typical arguments. So grasp for the new aspects of this debate. This article is a good read. One of the better ones I have seen. The idea of updating your facebook and twitter while driving is pathetic. I also disagree that voice activated items are of any use. Sometimes I am not able to talk clearly- so for me voice activated would be terrible! It would add frustration to me and raise my blood pressure- because I would feel too dumb to operate a basic function. I would guess others are not good at annunciation too. I don't think the ban will fly, and I'm looking forward to mating my phone to the car's Bluetooth connection. When I dial by hand I always make sure there's a lot of empty road in front of me! Although there's no accounting for squirrels, deer, etc. [:'(] I thought it was interesting that he gives stats for driver distraction, but doesn't say how many were due to phone use. You could drop a cigarette, be fumbling a map, looking at a handheld gps, fetching CDs (for us old-school types), etc. Or my personal fave, applying makeup. [;)] I think it would be pretty clumsy to update Facebook or issue twitters, but having them read aloud wouldn't be any different than books on tape. Wonder how the system would handle netspeak?

If you ban cell phones in cars, you should also ban drive thru windows (food& drink), cigarettes, makeup, razors, newspapers, beard trimmers, eyebrow tweezers, books and ESPECIALLY little yappy assed dogs on the driver's lap.

I live on a busy street. I can watch out my window and almost touch the cars. Every 4th car- the driver is on the phone. I was surprised-

I see that fairly often around here but I don't think much of it as long as they aren't violating the law themselves. Most cops are just 9 to 5 folks like everyone else - just making a living and waiting for the end of the the shift. Nothing more and nothing less. - I dont care for people on cell phones in public. I start to hate the person. It is like the guy is talking to himself. It is noise pollution. I will text when I am say in a waiting room. That way I can kill time, share thoughts. Most phone conversations are boring. Heck even calls for ME are often BORING!! Cops on cell phones dont bother me. Sometimes I wish I had a jammer. That would lose the call.

I refrain from cell phone use at any place that it would be rude to talk... this means conferences, in class, or in a movie theater. But if people do not want to hear me talk while I am walking down the street, or on the bus, or out at a restaurant... well those people can just fuck off and set an example by keeping their traps shut and never talking to anyone while they walk, are out at a restaurant, or on a bus. I do not understand it when people think that someone having a phone conversation in an environment that has people talking in it is somehow rude. If it is rude to talk while shopping, well then all people should keep their pieholes shut and not talk to their kids, spouses or friends... whether physically present or not[8\|]

I think it only becomes rude if your talking on the cellphone interfers with others getting things done. If you are holding up the checkout line or standing in front of an area obstructing trafific than I get annoyed. Do I really want to go to a restuarant and hear someone's conversation? No, but I doubt I would get annoyed unless they were loud or discussing something personal. Actually, I find that people. particularly those in the company of others, who texr and use their cell phone for long conversations at a resturant or social event kind of sad. How can you not disconnect to enjoy a meal or company? Oc course, that's just my take.

This is what I do not understand, do you find people talking in general to be annoying, or just talking on cell phones?/snip it is as intrusive as a commercial is.

There are very few countries that allow the use of hand held mobile phones whilst driving . It has been banned in the UK since 2003. Us
