I am looking at the very real possibility of losing my job, When I do I have a desire to write the company president and tell her just what a stupid choice that they made in doing so. However I know that that it is beneath me and petty, However, I would really love to let this person know:

   "Because of your company's policies, you have not only lost me and the training, the education, the talent, the experience that I have, but you have lost others. I guess that you think that burning through human resources like a flamethrower, some how makes good business sense. Or that you think that "So what we can always replace them, just like Wal-mart does",
    However, eventually you will be standing before your supervisors and they will likely see you in the same light that your subordinates saw me, and then no matter how much, talent, education, experience, hard work and dedication that you've put in they will fire you and you will have to find other employment."

You need a reference from the company. Doing this might prevent that from happening. Just go job hunt now.

Agreed!

Take the feelings you have and put it into making changes for yourself. Refresh your resume, start the process of job-hunting (if you haven't already), consider a new field...a career change, network...in a positive way, mind you...with folks in your field or the one you'd like to be in because you never know where that might lead you.

This appears to be a long-standing problem, given your posting history, so it really sounds like it's time to make some steps forward toward something new.

I wish you the best. While this may not be a good time for you to move, it's always a good time to think ahead.

OPs anger tho has been brewing for some time now- as he had posted about work snafus.

Based on the amount of anger he has- I doubt he is just venting here.

As posted- you need a work reference.   Maybe there is a whole new world just waiting for you to grab it by the azz?

A better future?

Could be- but most of that is up to you to score.  No one is going to do it for you.

Be good at what you do- and people will pay for it.

Focus on what you can do well.

This could be a great opportunity for you.       You never know.

I always felt that the worst and most damaging thing you could do to someone is NOT telling them about their mistakes. On the other hand, if you want to help them and make sure they improve, then let them know about their problems and how they could fix them.

Not letting someone know about their mistakes is not very satisfying and it kind of eats you up from the inside wanting to get out, but in the end it is the best choice in this matter.

That,

The co prez is not going to think much of his rant.  She did not like him then- she wont like him now.

Forget that place.  You NEED a job reference.  lay the groundwork for that NOW.   Team up with co-workers to be a reference NOW.
Some places ban you- they clean out your desk FOR YOU- and you are not allowed on the property.  So also start cleaning your desk NOW.   Take the stuff you brought in that means anything to you.  Leave non-important stuff so it does not look like you are leaving.

John,  you really have to be strategic about this.

This tension has been for a long time- so- you need to shift gears and envision your new happier life.

I've done cleaned out my desk, there is nothing there that belongs to me. Yes, the Anger has been brewing for a long long time.

When I started there, My department had its own floor of the building, we took maybe 10 calls a day and we could make sure that when the customer was off the phone that that issue was resolved.

we were allowed to do anything for the customer to resolve the issue short of re installing the OS, Now I am reduced to taking calls from people complaining about their cable when all that's wrong is they have it unplugged.

I am not kidding you, I have customers that call in saying that they have no dialtone on their voip phone and when I reset the modem POOF they are gone. because it was working, they were just too stupid to figure it out.

I had a field tech that had to go to greensboro for the day, where they sent most of my job, he said that he saw Agent sleeping at their desks, and one agent wearing fuzzy bunny slipper playing on their PSP. I have had National Reps that have told subscribers to uninstall their windows explorer and told them "It works better that way"

I was a professional, I was respected, I took a large amount of pride in what I did, now the company has decided to take a professional with a degree and make them into a janitor!

I was luckier than you. I worked in a lab for several years and, at times, it seemed like they were deliberately trying to make me leave. Finally, I got fed up and left. I gave them ample time to train a replacement. After I was packed and closed on my house and ready to move 850 miles, they started being nice and trying to lure me back. I went OFF on them. I told them exactly what I thought and furthermore that I gave them 1 year to be shutting the lab down. (An environmental consulting firm that shuts their lab down is hurting).

Short version, it took 13 months. Proficiency tests failed, lab closed, 8 people out of work (the only thing Im sad for is friends that lost jobs) and the company out about a quarter Mil. every month in billing. I couldn't resist calling the regional manager and giving him a nice big "I told you so".

All they can legally do is confirm that you worked there.

How much networking is there in your profession? Is there a grapevine? Angry as you are, would it hurt you chances in the same field and community?

sometimes I think we need a little push to finally get moving.  If something is not-quite-bad enough we not might be motivated to find something better.

Not quite. That's all most places will do but it isn't a legal requirement. They can also answer no to the question "would you rehire him if business improves?".  And there's a hell of a lot that you can do with tone and intonation.

Some places offer exit interviews, you could ask for one w/HR, but if you spout what you've written, don't expect to be taken seriously....and yeah, that bridge will be flaming nicely when it sinks.  No matter how much I hated the job, I always left on a good note.

Celeste is right about using a tone of voice....I can make a simple "no" sound like "Get the fuck away from me. NOW!!!!" 

And I don't know if it's just something done in my field of work, but I also have had to provide references from my supervisors, and they have been asked about more than just confirmation that I've worked there, as in my attitude and aptitude.  I usually have to go thru a background check that most people wouldn't have to, but more and more companies are using some form of them to pare down the pool of applicants.  They can afford to pick and choose now.....

As someone who was made redundant five years ago, I can recall the sense of anger and despair I felt when the unexpected news fell. I wanted to ring my boss and tell him what a talentless stinking oxygen thief he was, but I didn't.

Now, five years on, I'm in a job I love. A job I would never have had the courage to retrain for if I'd still been in my old job. I see my ex-boss doing exactly the same tedious, relentless job he was doing when I worked for him. I saw him a year ago, and in the four years since I'd seen him he'd aged 10 years. I felt smug, but I also pitied him.

And on the other side of the coin, I've also been the person who has provided references for people who have left the company. I try not to make it personal, but I also try to be honest. If I get a list of questions about 'what was their attitude towards work and colleagues' and 'would you hire them again' - I'd avoid the questions if I couldn't answer them without being negative.

But even so, it's amazing how negative a reference sounds when all your boss can say is "s/he was punctual, rarely took a sick day, and completed tasks satisfactorily".

When I was in a same situation- I did pop in to the manager- as we needed to sinc the hire/left dates...so we both said the same thing.    With training and background stuff- and 2 years time- the start date was not clear.  and being that I was transferred to 3rd position- for which no funding existed- the leave date was fazzy.

Gotta love it.  "transferred to 3rd position, for which no funding exists"
