Nato supply convoys travelling through Pakistan to Afghanistan have regularly come under attack in the past, but following Pakistan's decision to block their route through the Khyber Pass, they now face an even bigger security threat. Hundreds of tankers and trucks have been left stranded on highways and depots across Pakistan, with little or no security. Taliban militants have regularly been targeting the convoys, even when they are heavily protected. But many believe it is not just the militants who pose a security threat to the convoys. The owners of oil tankers being used to supply fuel to Nato in Afghanistan say some of the attacks on their convoys are suspicious. They say there is evidence to suggest that bombs have been planted in many of vehicles by the "Nato contractors" - individuals or companies who have been contracted by Nato to supply fuel and goods to forces in Afghanistan. The contractors subsequently hire the transporters who then carry the goods.

This is brilliant. Start a war, sub-contract the whole thing out to lovely security companies, including 'the enemy'. This is just good business. I'm wondering now if Al Qaida hasn't really been a Haliburton sub-sub-contract all along...

The reason why these tankers are trapped out there is interesting in itself. America's ally in the war against terror, Pakistan, apparently objects to having its own civilians murdered by drones piloted from plush offices in Houston. The whole thing has taken on a decidedly 'virtual' character. Pretend enemies fighting a pretend war with x-boxes and movie-style staged set-pieces.

It's as if the only 'real' thing to be found here is the growing pile of civilian bodies.

Hiring separate groups of mercenaries to compete for the same service. I'm sure it made sense at the time :/

But hey, if it perpetuates the model, the war on terror, anything will be done, for I believe there is bigger things at stake here than simply searching for OBL or whatever the latest excuse is.

Every good movie has a plot twist. We're building up to a major switch with this one...
