This will only mean people making up stuff such as not being able to work on Christmas day.

There are no Druid scriptures baring those penned on the internet; since the Druids were for the most part (or the all part) illiterate.

So they are going to have to get Dave the long haired IT net geek to tell them what to do. He is after all the foremost authority on modern Druidism.

GT,

To the tune of:   Old Time Religion

We will pray with those old druids,
They drink fermented fluids,
Waltzing naked though the woo-ids,
And it's good enough for me.

Now, will the British government allow the Druidic Seminary on the Isle of Mona to be rebuilt? <grin>

From what I have gleaned from historical sources, the Druidic human sacrifice was more of a capitol punishment. The sentence for some crimes under Brehon law were publicly burned alive as an atonement for their crimes. But, the Romans really didn't like the Druids and worked very hard to eradicate them.

I know many things including many verses to this song however I did not know that Pete Seeger wrote this part of it. It is, however, only one verse of many about Druids that are part of the traditions that is The Real Old Time Religion. There may not be a million of them but there certainly is at least a thousand of them.....verses that is.

Scroll way down to the D's for Druids. Keep reading. <evil grin>

Be well all....

Well, given the fact that scholars can only point toward other culture's interpretation of "druid" and the best they can come up with is a "priest" of a particular pagan culture in Gaul...somewhere in Gaul. There really will be a bunch of people making shit up. Primarily because people don't understand that there's little or no historical connection between the Picts and the religious Gaul class known as the "druids". But in the mind of fantasy writers for decades and in the marketing campaigns of role playing games for just as long it's been fun to run with that idea.

Then again, I think folks also forget that "pagan" is a generic term for "non-Christian" faiths prior to the rise of Christianity and not some specific religion.

Fuckin sheep.

Hello friend,

I first heard Pete perform this many years ago.

If you google Old Time Religion and Seeger you
will find a lot of references.  And many examples.
Also, as Pete is fond of pointing out music is a living
thing and we should keep inventing, developing it.

Here are 2 examples with a lot of overlap.

http://kristinhall.org/songbook/GospelTunes/OldTimeReligionPS.html

http://www.peteseeger.net/Oldtimereligon.htm

Some of these verses are about religions that did not exist
when I first heard Pete sing his tune.

Thanks for sharing,
Outlier

hertz -> RE: Druids Recognized in Britain! (10/3/2010 3:57:55 AM)

In the UK census, 2001, just 192 people gave their religion as 'Druid'. About 40,000 gave their religion as 'Pagan'.

In the same census, 390,127 people (including myself) gave their religion as 'Jedi'.

Jedi, a recognised religion is too...

PS Very disappointed no-one thought my juxtaposition of 'Droids' and 'Druids' was funny...

Let me translate.

"Move on.  These are not the druids you're looking for."

kiwisub12 -> RE: Druids Recognized in Britain! (10/3/2010 5:54:06 AM)

So what we have here is a bunch of people worshipping forms of nature - and relating it back to an ancient religion.

Cool.

Glad they have been officially recognised. Its no screwier than a lot of religions proporting to worship God and Jesus.   Of course, when they try to tell me that it is the same religion as the one that built Stonehenge, i have to giggle. Fantasy is alive and well in the newest religion.   and i have to wonder how they knew what druids wore back then - the images i saw on tv showed cream robes with purple overtunic - that was shiny.
