If your intention is to say you're unclear on how a species evolves into a new species the process is confusing as long as you think of it as a digital rather than analog process. The long accumulation of mutations over time is what makes different species most of the time. An organism is only slightly different from its parents but vastly different from its 10,000 times grand parents. Of course there are some cases of instantaneous new species but mostly those occur in plants (polyploidy results in novel plant species all the time, triticale for instance).
