I have no sympathy for them. If they're not willing to drop prices during a recession....

The Jaguars are running "specials" here, but you don't have the freedom of deciding what games you want to see, they have packages for certain games, prolly the ones that don't sell enough tickets to get the game televised. Ticket prices or what have you, until they actually start WINNING a game ot two, most folks are finding other ways to waste, I mean spend, 5 hours. And quite frankly, there isn't a SINGLE one of them worth the millions a year that they make...little prima donnas!

As far as I'm concerned, football is 5 hours of my life I'll never see again.....boooooooooooooooo-ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................and the only reason I look forward to the Suepr Bowl is cuz it means it's finally over!

Altho-ough.....some of those "tight ends" are nice to watch!

Makes perfect sense...

Cant fill the stands at current prices... then bump the prices. Make up the difference there.

Lets not look at the possibility of lowering prices... filling the stands... and making the money up through increased vender sales....

... makes perfect sense... for those who understand politics.

I agree that prices are ridiculously inflated and players in general are overpaid. However, not all teams have that problem. The Packers being the prime example. They are the only publicly owned team in the league. No single individual owns them. The shareholders do. If I were to sign up my unborn, unnamed grandchildren today, they might be lucky enough to be at the top of the list to buy season tickets by the time they are 30 years old. That's right (no mistake) the Packers have approximately a 30 year waiting list for season tickets. Every game they have is a sellout for the general seats. The only thing they have trouble selling (last year and this year) is the skybox seats. Just before preseason begins they have an annual "Family Night" which is a scrimmage between the Packers and the Packers, and they have no trouble selling out for this even. How many other teams can claim a sellout for a non-game event? Granted the Packers probably have more fans than any other team, but they also have the most loyal fans!

It was reported in the news recently that the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is looking at the Packers as a 'business model' for the rest of the league to try and solve some of the financial ailments that have come to the surface in recent years. When you have owners that try to 'buy' a winning team they are not necessarily getting "team" players, but instead get whiners like T.O. who think it's all about being in the spotlight. This mentality does nothing for the fans.

Don't get me started. When teachers are made to supply classrooms with items due to budget cuts, I have no sympathy for any sport that cries the blues. Due to these same cuts, some teachers are unable to continue the supply purchases, and it has been passed on to the parents. One school even went so far as to ask for toilet paper, claiming it was not allocated in the fiscal years budget.

We have always been a nation that treats it's sports figures well...too well. It's time we took a step back to consider priorities.

The recession is taking a toll on all sports right now. NASCAR is another example. They are also showing a drop in attendance. I go to several Packer games a year. I would love to get a ticket for $76.00. The biggest problem for the NFL is the upcoming contract. The players and owners would be smart not to muck it up.

Not just sports figures but the entertainment industry as a whole.

You have an eighteen year-old LeBron James come straight out of high school and sign a $90 million contract with Nike before he ever signs an NBA contract.

You have Vinnie Barbarino owning a personal fleet of jets.

And of course Paris Hilton, who just exists but is paid a great deal of money for God knows what.

Meanwhile, you have people who perform vital jobs that are struggling to make ends meet.

The NFL is in trouble because they don't understand how to play football. If you want to watch a real game, tune into a CFL game for a change.

entertainment ticket prices of all types are outrageous. i would love to be able to take my kids to the movies they want to see, the sports events they want to attend, even a concert or two, but who can afford the prices? i'm a single mom on disability, there's no way i can afford the prices they want for tickets for the family to go anywhere. for the price of tickets for one event i can pay for a month of cable. the kids and i agreed, that was a better choice. we are thinking of investing in a new system, big screen and the works, as a family christmas gift as we expect to spending alot of time at home this winter. wisdom says if you give someone enough rope they'll eventually hang themselves with it, and i think that's what the entertainment industry has done to itself.

In all fairness, this is the Broncos we're talking about. The Steelers have sold out ever home game since the early 70s including all those that took place after the steel industry collapsed.

Enjoy football this year, because I think it will not be here next year. The owners are idiots, the players are dumbasses and when you get a winning combination like this nothing good can come of it.
The prices are way to high and have been for years...it is just now that it is catching up with them. So be it!!! I won't pay and may not even watch on TV.

The prices are not too high if the market bears it. And some markets do quite well. I do understand that some teams, like the Jags have issues with ticket sales (isn't that why they were salivating over Tebow? Mainly for ticket sales?). Until people (fans) refuse to watch it, refuse to pay for the tickets and stop buying the jerseys, the NFL is here to stay. I do not think the NFL is a horrible business model, in my opinion it is hugely successful, overall.

The owners are of an opinion that they got screwed by Upshaw, when he was director of the players association, they want a confrontation right off with the new director, and I think they got themselves a "Marvin Miller" situation on their hands right now.

DeMaurice Smith is a former TRIAL ATTORNEY, and we see how well the baseball owners did trying to hard-line Miller, and he was only the Steelworkers ECONOMIST. I think in the long run the fans will side with the players because it sure as fuck ain't Jeff & Christine Lurie I'd be paying 75 bucks a nosebleed seat to see...

I heard about this on NPR. They were talking lockout. The owners are reluctant to disclose their financial information, they don't want anyone to know just how much money they're taking in, and the players union hasn't shot down any rumours of a strike. But they'll find out the hard way that a player's strike will do to the NFL the same thing it did to MLB.
There was a lot of anger over that among baseball fans. We still haven't forgotten it. It's like the one time you get a rotten olive in your martini. Never happens again, but the bad taste is still in your mouth.
