Location, age, if they can write English and then just whether they catch my eye, are interesting.

As a masochist, I, personally enjoy kissing frogs.  Whether they enjoy kissing me is another issue entirely, and could be taken up in a poll.

Yours,

just wanted to interject...there are frogs and froglettes out there..enough to go around for everyone...and as an aside to all of this....aren't you giving those you think aren't what you seek...the information to suck you further in with the knowledge they gain from this type post...just a random thought...

Nah, I would hazard a guess that they don't read much at all and have made up their own mind of what they think it's all about.  They give themselves a title and presto! they know everything!

[This is a first post, so hope it works !!]

The biggest turn-off for me will always be the a/s/l line - read the damn profile !!

Next in line would be one-liners, like "send me a photo", "tell me more", "what are you into" etc etc. It's cheap, lazy, and is guaranteed to piss me off. Akin to "hi baby, want a shag?" in a non-cyber first meet. If I'm in the mood, and give them the benefit of the doubt, I'll respond in kind, otherwise it's delete.

But, that also depends on the approach. A one-liner that makes you smile, that has a bit of thought behind it, or something that shows they've read the profile, will always get a response from me...and in fact, I've met some brilliant people from a start as simple as "How's the weather in Brisbane?", or "I can smell the barbie from here".

Can't beat courtesy though - winner on all fronts.

There's also the odd (and, rare) times that an initial approach nudges me as a submissiveness, makes me sit up and pay attention. Doesn't matter how short or how long, it's just the way it's done. Coupled with a profile that strikes a chord and it's generally a stand-out event.

......unless of course you get a little bit further down the message line to find they've likely filched the profile, or done a cut and paste from a more insightful article..... [:@]

you speak wisely. The true key to any relationship is communication. If the two people cannot talk with each other without being condemning, judgmental or ridicule, the relationship is doomed from the start.
