What is the 'best' country in the world, in your opinion, using any criteria you choose? Why is this country the best?

Which is the worst country in the world?
Why is it worst?

I think Norway is the best country in the world because the difference in relative wealth between rich and poor is very low for a western nation, and they have a strong public sector with good health care. Their standard of living is also very high. I've only ever met two Norwegians. I liked both of them.

I think Somalia is the worst. Yes, it is a libertarian wet dream, but personally, I like a good strong government. And I don't want to get murdered while I sleep.

Honourable mentions to Israel, the US, Japan and Sweden.

I haven't spent time in all countries so there is no way I can say what is best or worst.

I've been to 10 countries.

I'll have to pick the Netherlands or Sweden for my purposes.

Austria/Switzerland if you like places with alot of rules.

Best place I've lived is probably Germany.

'Any criteria' covers that, I think. I bet you've read about a few countries - surely you have an opinion about what you have read?

For example, I've never used street heroin or crack cocaine, but I am confident they are worse, from a health point of view, (because I read stuff), than cannabis and LSD (both of which I have used).

I think Canada might be a nice place to consider at some point in time.  Vancouver is beautiful.

Worst well that list could literally be a mile long.

I've only traveled enough to know not to base my opinions about people or places on a few words in text books.

Example: As a rule I hate cities, yet after spending time in one particular city, I would dearly love to live there for a large part of the year.

Another example: I was not at all impressed with the state of Colorado the first 3 times I was there. The 4th and 5th time, I fell in love with THAT PART of the state.

Based upon Cancun, I hated Mexico........I've since visited other areas I love.

On paper, I thought I would adore Jamaica.......I visited it and do not love it.

There are aspects of the US that make me glad I live here and proud to be a citizen. There are other aspects that make me wish I lived elsewhere and ashamed to be a citizen.

So I stand by my original statement.

Ya, living somewhere is not the same as being a tourist.
Once people expect you to know their language and adapt to their culture it's different.

All countries are the same now we have globalisation: no individual culture left just the strange coffee terminology that we all share.

I take it people think the best country is the one they live in otherwise they'd do anything to try and live elsewhere. The UK isn't the loveliest place in the world but it isn't a shithole dictatorship in the backend of nowhere.

Globalisation was more of a 90s thing.

I do prefer feeling the differences when I go to/live in different places.

I've been to the UK for only 1 1/2 days but I honestly cannot remember anything special happening. My two most vivid memories are a bowl of cereal and some Royal Guards.
I think I'm going to have to reassess/rectify that someday.

I'm adding "drink at a pub while Arsenal steamrolls Man U" in my life to-do list.
I'm gonna to do the research in advance cause I know what happens when you're wearing the wrong jersey.

The US is the best.

Portions of the US are the worst.

Don't forget January and sometimes March. At least I don't live in Ottawa anymore, where -40 can go on for days. BRRRRRR And don't forget the corner Portage and Main in Winterpeg, the closest place in Canada at times.

Edited for a forgotten word, my fingers refuse to co-operate when I'm still half asleep.

That's why 3/4 of my neighbors when I am in AZ for the winter are from Canada.

I would say Canada too but it is absolutely miserable from November till May.

Not the good kind of pain. More like the sapping my energy and making me whither kind of pain at -40 C/F.

Canada is nice because Canadians are well-adjusted human beings. Oh, and the landscape looks pretty cool, too. Canada is on my list of places I think might be really good.

I think Norway is probably the best country in the world, due to extremely good social infrastructure and excellent healthcare as well as educational system.
Sweden and Canada are next in line

I think the worst would probably be Liberia for the reason that they have no infrastructure at all, no government and basically rampant violence, poverty and disease.
There are many many countries that can be considered worst, the list is too long to mention.
