Have you guys ever seen one with all the variety of Pawn Stars?  There are some little ones locally around the Air Force base but they sure weren't fancy!

I have sold some jewlery to a pawn shop.

I have also had some wonderful luck buying various items from pawn shops. I went to a local pawn shop yesterday looking for a tv for my bedroom and sadly the custom service was nonexistant so I left. I will go to the pawn shop about 20 min away where the customer service is wonderful.

I own (and have not ever owned) anythig WORTH pawning that was in my possession,\. anything truly pawnable was stuff I had no intention of getting rid of except to family members (heirlooms, keepsakes and such)

Im a big fan of that show. When my boys were younger, they would sell the video games that they played to death.
or sometimes made trades with them for games they didnt have. They are now "young men", and the oldest of the
2 loves going to pawn shops just to see what deals can be had.

SubPet...both were avid collectors of the pokemon and magic cards. My youngest just sold his magic set for $374.00
He used some web site that priced each card individually..although heck if I can remember the name of it.

For that price if it was a set I would guess it was coolstuffinc.com

They pay alright but they're big on selling, for instance a 40 card they're selling they would buy for only 12. It is a much more lucrative venture if you're patient enough to sell them piece by piece than as a whole, I made that mistake at first selling about 500 cards for 50 dollars =/

I feel like such a yutz......half the stuff, cards....etc, I don't even know what you all are talking about. Laughing at myself for being so out of the loop.

I am trying to think and I don't know that I've ever even been in a pawn shop. I might have looked around in one that was in downtown Cedar Rapids when we first moved there. They were big into jewelry but all I ever remember seeing in their window was mediocre crap.

If I needed money that badly, I've got enough other connections that would give me a much better price than a pawn shop would. Collectors that would fight over my old silver jewelry. Some of it I would sell if someone bothered to make an offer but I haven't the need to make the effort to put it out there. Several shops that would love my french sideboard and art pottery....stuff like that. The family pieces like my grandmothers blanket chest, selling is not an option. And like Greedy, none of my electronic stuff is worth anything. The one television in this house is at least 15 years old. No fancy stereo equipment. All three computers are over 5 years old. My camera, like my family antiques will not ever be for sale and realistically, it's several years old, not the latest and greatest, so probably only worth a car payment or two. The lenses, while extremely expensive to replace.....again, not going to make me rich selling them. Certainly not worth getting rid of.

My ex and I had a very lucrative antiques and restoration business (when he wasn't drinking the profits away) so I always enjoy Antiques Roadshow when I get the chance to watch it. GD watches the Pawn Stars show on occasion and I've seen some interesting stuff on there.........and laughed at some of the stuff people have thought they would get rich off of.

They're playing cards that nerds like me pay a great deal of money for...

I also forgot to mention virtual items, thats right, things that aren't even real.

In WoW (World Of Warcraft) you can make a good deal of money selling in game gold and BoE (Bind On Equip) items.

Last I played I made an average of 40 dollars a week simply selling gold and BoE's, people will pay for that stuff and while illegal...i'm much too content making the cash I make <_<

Yes.  Last summer we learned that my aunt's chemo wasn't working and she wanted us to visit NOW.  The night I was to start driving, my battery died and it was a mad scramble to find a new one.  The automotive store tried to bash the new one on with a big hammer and knocked a terminal down into the battery, so the next one they almost threw at me.  I went to Walmart and asked if I could pay to put it on and they said no, but a mechanic met me after work in the parking lot and I paid him $20 to put it on.  I was barely financially prepared for this trip to start with.

When we returned home, I had a week and a half before more money would come in and so I took lots of DVDs and DVD seasons of old tv shows so I could have $100 to get through the month.

Usually I haunt local pawn stores because I am buying DVDs, and wanting GBA and Nintendo DS Pokemon games.

Last month I just picked up my 4th copy of Pokemon Pearl, lol, for only $15.  It is very complicated, and I need different games of it for different reasons, as there are never enough storage boxes within the game.  Pokemon Diamond is it's fraternal twin, and I have 4 of those too.  I use them all, seriously.

All of the Pokemon games I have...12 varieties that I can remember...I have several copies of all but two, as they are through the WII.  I don't look at jewelry or anything else in a pawn shop, though I have bought several Nintendo GBA players and at least two Nintendo DS Lites.

One of my favorite pawn shops has this little dog in it...he is very well mannered and mostly bored...but gets excited when he sees my son.

I was checking out the Pawn Stars show, and seeing the wacky things folks were pawning--stuff like I used to sell when I dealt in vintage/antiques---it got me thinking.

Have you ever pawned anything? What? I've sold jewelry for money, sold metal for money, but I have never been to a pawnshop.

Yep, lots of things, especially this summer, loads of technical books on photography (expensive standard texts) and my CD collection, as this summer for three months I was at my absolutely skint'est, all the money I could find went to paying my rent and bills, stuff like food and luxuries fell by the wayside and I learned about all the wonderful things one can do with rice and my herb and spice collection. One thing I found, no one seems to want electronics, second hand, they are worth next to nothing.

As to what I could sell to get money, I was very limited, although my scrap and stock silver was on the cards if I needed to shift it, but CD's and books first. Besides all my music is on my MP3 player and external hard rive, so the CD's are not really necessary.

But it just goes to show the results of our consumerist desires, all the technology, all the things we have to buy, they are worth nothing when it comes to sell, they are either outdated, or it is a buyers market, we are basically investing in crap.

Buying from Pawn shops, I have mixed feelings,l as I am aware of the negativities that are around when stuff has to be pawned, I don't need other's negativities.

I ARE NOT A HORDER!!

No, I am not. I do have the ACQUIRE! gene, though... which I guess is why I fell into dealing vintage and smalls and dolls!

I have never been into a pawn shop. They are not in the best areas, and I always had other places to move my stuff. Plus, the opportunities to get MORE STUFF.... eeeee!!!

Now I want to go work at one!!

When I was married and we were extremely poor we did whatever we could to scrape a few pennies for gas or to pay a bill.

We pawned jewelry, video game consoles, tvs, vhs players, bicycles, basically anything we could carry into the place and we thought we'd get at least a couple dollars

We sold blood and platelets, helped others with weekend projects, babysat, yardsales, bartered, borrowed, etc...you name it we did it.

If I'm ever in that position again in life I hope someone just puts me outta my misery.

Ditto here. When my ex-husband and I were strung out, we pawned alot of things at various times, including guns (all legally owned). Some stuff we were able to get back and some stuff we did not. I think the lowest time was when he tried to pawn a shitty boombox and was turned down. Very sad memory. Later, when he was in jail and I was not (yet), I pawned tons of great CDs.

These days, I only buy at pawnshops. My mandolin came from one, lots of CDs and various other cool things. Master buys lots of nice guitars there for bargain prices. It's nice that things have changed

I never saw a pawn store until I moved out of NYC. Fiorello LaGuardia banned them back in the thirties and the ban still holds as far as I know.

Pawn shops is banned in Denmark so i never actually pawned anything. But in Sweden, which i often go to, they have them. I absolute love browsing in them. Picked up a digital storage scope there once for 1000 skr (150$). Got quite a few other bits of tooling there. Like a Weller desoldering station for like 10 % of the price.
