I was checking out the Pawn Stars show, and seeing the wacky things folks were pawning--stuff like I used to sell when I dealt in vintage/antiques---it got me thinking.

Have you ever pawned anything? What? I've sold jewelry for money, sold metal for money, but I have never been to a pawnshop.

I watch that show because I love antiques and collectibles. I also watch antiques roadshow. I used to deal them, so I still have an avid interest.

Yes.  It was actually some jewelery that I pawned.

Yes, I am about to sell some jewelry too, my game is not the only thing that is tight~

I am all for selling stuff for cash, I just always thought of pawn shops as being places to unload jewelry, musical instruments, stuff that had fast resale, NOT things that needed professional appraisal!

Julia did it KILL you when they refurbished that steamer trunk that had all the fittings? I could see ALL the Antiques Roadshow people keeling over with the vapours!

I am not sure if I would like having a pawn shop. I like working with the public, but not necessarily the Metro Detroit public who would be my patrons!!

Nope, but I have bought stuff from pawn shops.

CD's are dirt cheap there.  Well a lot of things are.

Ive bought stuff at a pawn shop before.  Never sold.  Lady H.  When you are selling jewelry, Check a coupla of places.  Dont just unload it to the first dude that pulls out some cash.

And, that cash for gold scam where you mail it to them.  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, dont go there.

Regardless of the job I may have I spend a good deal of my free time looking for things to sell that I own. I'm a nerd so I own a bevy of nerdly items that many people just pay a great deal for. My work money is for work, my side business is selling and buying things to sell to other people, business is good.

For example they had an episode of pawn stars in which they featured a "Fortress Maximus" figure that sells for an insane amount in tact. I had 2 of them, one in tact, one slightly used, and I treated it like a chop shop operation. I took him apart slowly but surely and sold him off piece by piece, the arm, his gun, the main chest ramp, all sold on ebay for a minimum of 10 dollars. Total profit from that venture was about 800 dollars.

I also sell trading cards, vs, pokemon, magic cards things like that.

To get an idea of how much those sell for, just go to ebay and check out "Black Lotus Unlimited". Unlimited being a reprint, the price is still amazingly high, I own a sheet of the unlimited version and one original. I'm waiting for the mafia to want to take my legs before I think of selling those.

Yes a long time ago like gosh over 20 years or so when I was first married to my ex, we had just started out out general contracting business and had some lean times so a few times we pawned some power tools for like 200 or so dollars and always went and got them back. Back then it didn't even really bother me, and the people there were actually really nice.

Also, I sold a lot of jewelry he bought me after our divorce but I sold it to a jeweler not a pawn shop and got a lot of $$$ for it,it was way more money than a pawn shop would have given me.

Oh and Hibbie I *LOVE* that show, Chumly is so frigging funny!!

When I was married and we were extremely poor we did whatever we could to scrape a few pennies for gas or to pay a bill.

We pawned jewelry, video game consoles, tvs, vhs players, bicycles, basically anything we could carry into the place and we thought we'd get at least a couple dollars

We sold blood and platelets, helped others with weekend projects, babysat, yardsales, bartered, borrowed, etc...you name it we did it.

If I'm ever in that position again in life I hope someone just puts me outta my misery.

Im a big fan of that show. When my boys were younger, they would sell the video games that they played to death.
or sometimes made trades with them for games they didnt have. They are now "young men", and the oldest of the
2 loves going to pawn shops just to see what deals can be had.

SubPet...both were avid collectors of the pokemon and magic cards. My youngest just sold his magic set for $374.00
He used some web site that priced each card individually..although heck if I can remember the name of it.

I pawned some things in florida when I lived down there. They had some really strange things in the store, but it was interesting.
