So I guess spelling things in front of them doesn't work anymore, we need to come up with some sort of semaphore.

Try the International Phonetic Alphabet, worked for me till they were teens.   It also works in the chats, and the forums when you absolutely have no other phrase at hand besides :   Sierra Tango Uniform Papa India Delta.....Bravo India Tango Charlie Hotel

Phonetically,

Don't even need to do a cut and paste

A= Alpha      B= Bravo     C= Charlie      D= Delta     E= Echo    F= Foxtrot    G= Golf     H= Hotel

I= India       J= Juliet     K= Kilo            L= Lima      M= Mike    N= November      O= Oscar

P= Papa       Q= Quebec     R= Romeo       S= Sierra     T= Tango     U= Uniform       V= Victor

W= Whiskey    X= X-Ray    Y= Yankee       Z= Zulu

There are other variants of this, but this is the one most common in the US Military, and world wide civil aviation.    As I said it worked like a charm until the kids were in to their teens, my daughter at 17 now is faster than my wife at decoding it when I still use it.  My wife sometimes will blow my doors off using it to spell.

Even if they are smart little "midgets" (to use Gene Simmons' term for kids) it will take then a long time to learn this.  Use it in good health, and to your advantage.

Phonetically,
Some Knucklehead in NJ

Pogo, Alpha Alpha?

Well if your old enough you probably remember Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, Easy and the rest of the WWII era lexicon.  The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) also recognizes the spellings "alfa" as not all foreign language speakers know the "ph" is pronounced as an "f" and also the spelling juliett, because native french speakers might think the single "t" silent and would thus end up being pronounced jul eee ay.

This from Wikipedia on the history:   the need for a single universal alphabet, presented a draft alphabet to the ICAO in 1947 that had sounds common to English, French, and Spanish. After further study and modification by each approving body, the revised alphabet was implemented on 1 November 1951 in civil aviation, (but it may not have been adopted by any military)[/link]
Alfa Bravo Coca Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf Hotel India Juliett Kilo Lima Metro Nectar Oscar Papa Quebec Romeo Sierra Tango Union Victor Whisky Extra Yankee Zulu
Immediately, problems were found with this list. Some users felt that they were so severe that they reverted to the old "Able Baker" alphabet. To identify the deficiencies of the new alphabet, testing was conducted among speakers from 31 nations, principally by the governments of the [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom]United Kingdom
and the United States. Confusion among words like Delta, Nectar, Victor, and Extra, or the unintelligibility of other words under poor receiving conditions were the main problems. After much study, only the five words representing the letters C, M, N, U, and X were replaced. The final version given in the table above was implemented by the ICAO on 1 March 1956

Phonetically Again,
Some Knucklehead in NJ

I often forget "Quebec" because I never use it. I have heard some weird variants when trying to give alphanumeric info to someone at a help desk, for instance, and they repeat it back. Apple, bunnyrabbit, doggie, Donald, Elvis, fuck (OK, that's what I exclaim ), gorilla, and so on.

It'd been about 35 years or so since I was under the UCMJ, so I forget shit.

Yeah, fuck you, Ell Tee. I want a steak, a shower, a cold beer, and a blowjob. I'll trade all the classified info I know for that. And the only classified info I know is, you're an asshole, LT. (/joke)(just in case you rightard fucks who missed doing their patriotic duty because of anal warts missed it)(or that sharpshooting cunt Cheney, who had better things to do than stand up for his country. What a fucking cunt).
