SIRsoutheast -> mastery ????? (8/29/2010 4:17:34 AM)

True detachment is to be a master of all things that we use.

Projection:

Detachment is usually mistaken as being away from things because usually while using the facilities available we tend to get dependent on them. Such dependency is troublesome and so we sometimes give up using these facilities thinking that this is detachment which helps us to be free from their control.

Solution:

The solution lies in mentally detaching our self from the facilities we are using. That means we use them but we are not dependent on them. For this we need to remind our self that we are the creator and whatever facilities are available to us is the creation. This enables us to develop mastery and control over everything

This being a BDSM site n all, we're to assume these "facilities" to be a metaphor for one's slave?

That being so, it seems you're reasoning amounts to justifying getting your personal jollies off without care, committment or responsibility of your actions toward the slave's wellbeing...?

Being cursed with principles and conscience, I'll pass.

I just watched the "Book of Eli" and your post reminds me of Gary Oldman's motives - you're building your own BDSM themed cult?

Errrm, welcome to the Forums - it doesn't get easier from here....

Focus.

So...because I use this chair that Im sitting in to be comfortable while typing my response, I have come to depend on it, and therefore it has mastered me? I have to mentally remove myself to such a degree that I take absolutely no pleasure in sitting in this chair while Im typing this, thus making me far superior to my chair? Am I to immitate an evil laugh while telling my chair " I have mastered you!"?  Cant I just like my chair without playing head games with it? [:-]

Do chairs have heads? Beds do...not so sure about sitting equipment [:D]

Welcome OP!

ahhh..I love the smell of zen bullshit in the morning before coffee.

Kana -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:04:21 AM)

First day of 100 level philosophy?

sexyred1 -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:09:18 AM)

Yeah, something like that. School started earlier for some this year.

Then again, it was written at 4am and the OP has not been back to track the discussion, so perhaps it was a booze fueled conundrum that occured to him.

Kana -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:14:57 AM)

I'm trying to hold back Red.
Basing an argument while using words such as "tends, usually, and we" is really tough to resist.
I feel like a starving carnivore refusing proffered meat.

sexyred1 -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:16:14 AM)

Oh, Kana, please don't hold back. I don't mind seeing carnage this early.

DesFIP -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:20:25 AM)

If he really was emotionally detached, I wouldn't be with him.
I've been with men who are afraid of emotional intimacy, afraid of getting hurt. Doesn't matter that you dress it up in those high sounding words, the truth is there to see. You're afraid of being hurt, so you hold yourself back. As a result you cause to happen what you most fear, your detachment causes her to stop caring about you, so she leaves and you get hurt - again.

This was a necessary form of survival when you were young. But like all such learned responses at that age, it comes back to bite you in the ass in the later years. You're crippling yourself, go get some therapy and heal. Because until then you'll cause the end of all your relationships.

DisenchantedLife -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:23:54 AM)

Seems like the carnage would be wasted on the OP as its most likely a booze fulled conundrum after a really early morning start at school. I say you're just asking for carpal tunnel syndrome if you reply to every ejit.

lally2 -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 6:51:09 AM)

when i 'detach' myself from a situation it means i have no emotional investment in it and i dont give a shit anymore - whats youre idea of 'detachment' - because if its to have no emotional attachment and you dont give a shit that could get a bit dodgy (from the subs pov that is) - but since we are 'things' in youre world im guessing thats about the size of it......  so hows that working for you so far. LOL, very true.

SIRsoutheast -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 7:18:06 AM)

Interesting , how some words spark such intensity , they were not mine they arrived in an email this morning and i sat and did the same, wondered 'what this zen bullshit was' , but being open minded i decided it would be better to open it up to the many ,,,,,,,, so here we have it a post that has created passion and feelings alas i feel negative ones at that !

DarkSteven -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 7:18:25 AM)

OP, I believe that Mastery constitutes, among other things, control of one's emotions.  Detachment involves distance from them, not control of them.

ranja -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 7:31:39 AM)

using the facilities just sounds like going to the loo
one could of course poo in the woods like the bears, but i prefer my ceramic toilet pot... i know it is a human creation, i do not really need any control over my toilet pot, other than i expect it to take my shit and flush when i order it to do so
if that means i am master over my w.c ... well... that's just great

ScaryJello -> RE: mastery ????? (8/29/2010 7:47:02 AM)

Weeee. DImestore philosophy.

Emotional detachment is ONE road to mastery of a subject or activity, but it is not the only road.
