Yeah, it's HIB asking, are ya shocked? [:D]

I have to vacuum a lot, and that damn Hoover weighs a ton, and it's hard to maneuver under the birdcage. Dysons cost the world, I know, but I keep looking at the commercial and saying, hmmm...

I've had one for years....it was cheap, works fine. Not the ball, had it since before they came out with that....just the 'cyclone' thing. No bag, cost little, still going strong.

Your bird is in an enclosure right? At the local bird store they have the cutest little button quail that they have on the floor in their aviaries. They eat all the seed that the other birds toss...and they are much quieter than a Hoover!

What, another BIRD???? [:o]

There is the disaster of shredded paper that my feathery Enron creates, too, not to mention the dust and lint, and STUFF that seems to accumulate in my room. White carpet, yanno. I threaten to scoop up all the nutriberry mess and put it back in Jed's dish, but he knows I don't mean it.

Would it help if I said they look kind of like guinea pigs with beaks?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 8:52:07 AM)

LOLOL!!

They are adorable little things!! And tasty, too! (HAD to add that!) No, there shall be no other birds but Jeddie Bird. I promised him. Besides, he really doesn't seem to like the company of other birds.

Hib, my mom bought the pet one with the ball last time I was home.....man, that thing can SUCK!  She had a Sears vacuum that she thought did a good job, and this woman vacuums every other day......she made 4 passes with the Dyson and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out of the carpet!  Hell, I even vacummed cuz it was so cool.......she has two cats and a dog, all of whom shed constantly.

It's pretty maneuvearable, and not too heavy.....I just wish they were a little cheaper.

DarkSteven -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 9:04:56 AM)

I have a Dyson (my chinchillas are slobs and I have litter and hay scattered on the carpet). It's pretty good, but a Ridgid shop vac does a darn good if not a better job and can be bought for well under $100.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 9:07:31 AM)

You have CHINS?? Those are little poopasauruses!! I have a handheld shark, and a dirt devil mini, AND a damn fine shop vac... but the shop vac is BIG, and I am looking for lightweight.

Yes, we clean a lot here. Mom insists we live in a pigsty. She has no idea. MY room, that is a freakin disaster of parrot dust, in spite of the air cleaner, but yeah, you can lick the tile floors and taste the vinegar.

Oooo....I just bought a little baby Rigid shop vac for Sir at Menard's for $24.99 to clean up around/under his table saw. It works awesome!

flcouple2009 -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 9:29:07 AM)

I had a Scottish girl who was known as "Dyson", does that count?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 9:35:26 AM)

I gave away my baby shop vac, but that sucker ruled!! The bigass Craftsman is the bomb, mom LOVES that thing!

From a repair point of view Dysons are junk, they always seem to fail in the same places. So now I swear by Numatics, they at least are designed to be repaired.

You are right I have a 1988 Eureka and a 1992 Hoover, both of which, with a HEPA filter bag do as well or better than the Dyson's, and are waaaaaaayy cheaper to fix.

Dysons, in my experience, are heavy, expensive, and a pain in the backside to empty. I'd never get another one.

thishereboi -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 1:51:09 PM)

I asked my friend who owns the local 7-11 and he said he has had an orick XL for 17 years and loves it. He also said it's very light and easy to move around.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 2:38:22 PM)

I have used Orecks, and they are hit or miss. The Hoovers we have are very solid, I just Had A Dream.

In decades of vacuum use, I have never had to have one REPAIRED. The most we ever did was change the fan belt when it broke, or take it apart and clean it.

subrob1967 -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 3:00:48 PM)

I used to sell Dyson's for Fry's Electronics, I never had one returned. Once every couple of months they sell refurbished Dyson's for less than 1/2 price, if you're interested.

There's this show how clean is your house, or some title like that I can't remember,  and it's a UK british show and  these women go into peoples filthy homes and get them cleaned up for them.

Well this one guy had his pet bird in his room, and they said it's really bad for you and un healthy to have your birds in your room because of the dust and dander they put into the room.

hlen5 -> RE: Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? (8/26/2010 3:50:51 PM)

I was talking to a vacuum cleaner salesman (they have a repair shop, too) and he said Dyson's are always getting clogged and are expensive too. The shop sold Dyson's too and he directed me to what he thought was the best buy - a Solitaire (a Singer, I think). I was looking fora canister vac.
