JstAnotherSub -> I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 3:12:22 PM)

Until today....tooth had to be pulled.  Been there before, no biggie.

Well, it broke off and instantly turned into a surgical extraction.  One root would send a shooting pain up behind my eyeball every time he tried to pull that part out.  He gave me as much novacaone as he could-like 8 shots of it.  The pain continued.  He would pull til I screamed and moved his hand, then we would take a break and wipe the sweat and tears away.

I did learn that, as fat as I am, with the right motivation my knees can curl up to my head quite nicely and stay there for a long time.  I am betting that tomorrow I have soreness in places I forgot  I had.  I just hope they are all below the waist and not in my jaw.

2 hours wrasslin a dentist, I am wore out.  They told me not to smoke, like they did years ago when I got the otehr one pulled, so of course I fired one up before I got out of the parking lot, but I made sure the gauze was packed firmly and I barely sucked.

SO, I will never assume that anything is routine again.  The tooth and the wicked lil root are all gone now.  I am considering hitting the porch for some herbal therapy, and I would bet that poor dentist is on his 3rd gin and tonic by now......

Never in my life have I felt like such a pussy.  I did natural childbirth to a baby with a 14 1/2 inch head and didn't even flinch, drove my self to the hospital when my gallbladder went out and whem I had an ovarian cyst burst, and have always considered my self to be one touogh high pain threshold mutha fukr.

My name is jstanothersub, and I am not tougher than a tooth root the size of a piece of rice.

Been there, done that. My current dentist knows my history with TIAs/stroke so he didn't even attempt to pull a broken tooth himself. Once the tooth broke off, he cleaned and packed what was left in the socket and scheduled me with an oral/maxillofacial surgeon. For that surgery I was put under and had no clue what took place.

I've been to other dentists, though, that took great joy in injecting the novacaine directly into the trigeminal nerve. I clubbed one dentist upside the head in an instinctive reflex after receiving such an injection, to which he told me, "That nerve is supposed to be there." Like I have a say in where it is. [>:]

thornhappy -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 7:05:27 PM)

Wellllll, there a nerve he was pulling at the same time!

I have one tooth in my lower jaw with unusual innervation (it had some nerves from the front, instead of all nerves from the back of the jaw), and no amount of shots (6, I think) could numb it.  The next time anyone touches that one, it's gonna be with a shitload of nitrous!  I was ok until he got the very last of the filling out.  Then it was pussy city, and I mean in the bad way, you pervs!

If there were a lot of shots to the back of your lower jaw, you may have the muscles locked up for a week or two.  Bad for blow jobs! [:D]

Sappa, I almost always have a guy land on a nerve.  And the guy wonders why I'm fidgeting so much with my feet!

sexyred1 -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 7:19:48 PM)

Oh, you are no pussy OP. I had tooth surgery 2 years ago and I still remember the pain I was in...I don't wish that on my worst enemy. I had a simple tooth pull turn into a dry socket situation....oy vey.

I ended up with a migraine on top of the tooth pain and pain meds made me throw up so I could not even take them. I had to go to the emergency room and get pain meds shot into me and steroids to stop the migraine.

I still need to get an implant and have been avoiding it for a year now.

juliaoceania -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 7:30:04 PM)

I have had things done to my mouth I would rather not think about....like jaw surgery and 8 teeth pulled that were in the way of the jaw surgery...

I looked like someone put my face in a car door and slammed it at least 10 times, and I mean like a 1970s Charger.

I was on codeine for about 4 months.

heartcream -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 7:35:36 PM)

Oh dear the dentist. I am not good in the chair. My doctor will not use nitrous so that sucks but he has his reasons. Oh dear, going to the dentist.

Twoshoes -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 7:42:52 PM)

If it's any consolation for you two (JstAnotherSub,sappatoti), a trigemial nerve injury would feel that painful the entire time.

I hope I can stay away from dentists.

Vendaval -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/18/2010 9:48:26 PM)

That sounds horrible. Fear of the dentist is a very common phobia and it is no secret why. [X(]

Oh dear, reminds me when I had my extraction last year, where I was a bit pissed off about it...I went to my general dentist when my filling popped out but she had the nerve to tell me to come another time (it is quite a journey for me to visit her, gosh was I pissed off, after all I had booked a normal appointment and cancelled my work shift, so lost out on salary, and so she should have done her job instead of telling me "naaah, not today") following which I went to a different dentist. She did then a good job the way how she did pull it out, but leaving me now in the unknown if my other dentist would have done a root canal treatment again instead of pulling it out but well...will never know. [&o]

However, I consider myself to have been blessed to have my night meds for my fibromyalgia, (amitriptylin) as that one numbns my nerves to enable me to sleep pain free during the nights as otherwise all my muscles turn stiff....therefore when it was clear that normal pain meds are lousy for it I chucked in one of those and the pain was gone binnen 10seconds for plenty hours...that made me realise that even when I am working on it to get off those meds once all uni hassle is over I will still regular get it and just store it...simply as I always want to have those painkillers now available when I am loosing a tooth...after all, I still have 3 of my wisdom teeth, so it will come in handy the one or other day [:)]

i remember where twice on placement I tried the normal painkillers but with no improvement following which then I took again my night meds...benefit on it...pain was gone [:)]

disadvantage??? I got knacked rappidly [8|] so either way working wasn't possible in those few days....but at least the pain was no problem for me [:)]

i just think that something went wrong when humans were created...crocodiles got the teeth which were meant for us, with just keeping regrowing all the time...

JstAnotherSub -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/19/2010 2:30:15 AM)

Well, I slept all night and as long as I don't touch it, it feels swollen but not too bad.  I am going to go in and do breakfast at school and see if the kids cxheer me up.  If not, my ladies are gonna get to run the kitchen without me today, and I will be coming home and resting.

Just took 4 advil and an antibiotic....gingerly sipping coffee, and feeling much better after reading this thread!

When I was going to sleep last night, a few times I thought about it and my knees drew up to my chest without me even thinking about it.  I think I am gonna have nitemares about this shit.

Nitrous...I may try it one day, but even after this, I am afraid of it.  I worry it will make me have a panic attack.  Wonder if I could smoke a joint before I go and be ok?

I am gonna do my best to get over my fear of dentists before another tooth goes bad.  Ugh.  Going to see one again freaks me out right now, even for a cleaning!

Reading all these horror stories has made me appreciate my Mexican dentist even more. After years of negect with American dentists charging more than I was able to pay my dentist had a lot of work to do. He filled all the cavities. He removed 6 roots that had no teeth attached and I never felt even one being removed. Then I got dental implants for replacements also with no pain. He is so very gentle.

What went wrong is we were never supposed to subsist on starch and sugar.

laurell3 -> RE: I thought I liked pain.... (8/19/2010 9:33:51 AM)

Tooth pain is THE absolute worst in my opinion. I've never had child, so I can't speak on that, but as far as all the ailments, illnesses and injuries I've had, I would take all of them over an infected tooth. I feel for you. I'm thankful that I have a dentist that understands my needle phobia and gasses the living hell out of me before he touches me. It makes the dentist a very pleasant experience!

I don't have dental phobia per se, just needles, but my dentist pointed out to me one day that dental phobia seems to stem from the fact that you never really have any idea what the hell the dentist does whereas with other health care professionals you can see what they are doing and have enough common knowlege about medical issues to fill in some blanks. It makes sense.
