i read the link. Not sure how i feel about this one. Apparently, the drug is used in certain pregnant women to limit the potential for a particular kind of birth defect. The fact that it MIGHT affect the sexuality or personality of the child is a SIDE EFFECT. The drug is not being taken for that reason. However, it's a bit too close to the line for comfort, isn't it.

To be more exact, the drug is given when a previous birth has resulted in that birth defect... congenital adrenal hyperplasia... which can cause heart problems. The side affects of the medication arent a bed of roses either.

If we educate people then they won't fear sexual orientation no matter what it is.  So far we have failed as a country to do so. 

So, if you were pregnant would you take the pill knowing it may allow your child to live a healthy life and just be different? 

Or would you not take it and have your child have a lifetime of hospitals in their future and yet be picked on eternally by ignorant children?

Myself I'd probably take it and teach the kid to beat anyone to a pulp who mocked them.

I'd take it - this drug's not used to determine orientation, it's taken to prevent the severe side effects of the enzyme deficiency.

Interesting thought though, if this drug was to be abused and it used to control the sexual identity of people, something I understand a lot of people and /or organisations would like to do it presents an interesting dilemma. As say for example certain bodies wish to remove homosexuality from society, perhaps a drug could do that who knows, a drug administered during development pre birth or soon after, what would be the end result, could it in fact turn someone who would otherwise be hetero into homo, or vice versa

I have read the first part of that article.

In my opinion this medication should not be applied. The rule of thumb is: Do not interfere with nature. In this case such masculinized females may have a functional role in human society. And if not, natural selection ought to be allowed to do away with them.

Do you really want them to almost die and rack up heart disease, just because of your theory?

Do you advocate neglect of anyone with a birth defect?  By your reasoning, I should've been left to go blind and probably die about 10 years ago due to a birth defect that wasn't diagnosed until middle age.

I do not advocate neglect. The Romans used to expose such babies on mountaintops and such places and perhaps bury the remains if they had not been eaten by predators. If I recall correctly the Christians of those days went up to those places, found them and adopted them into their own homes. European Christians have just about the lowest frequency of birth defects, I believe.

But I wonder...hmmmmm. ouch that hurts...but if there were a drug that would assure a healthy heterosexual child do you, meaning any who want to comment, think it would be immoral to give or take it?

I understand there are many happy, well adjusted, homosexuals that are perfectly content with their lives… even if the preference could mean the end of their line.

BUT

Would not these same people most likely be happy as heterosexuals? And would you not agree that homosexuals in general live more stressful lives and are discriminated against because of their sexuality?

Is there any real reason for homosexuals in the development of the race that ONLY homosexuals can provide?… Would not in all cases a heterosexual orientation be beneficial unless there was a trait homosexuals have that that could not be duplicated?

I wonder how I would answer that question… most likely I will take grief but I would want that pill for myself and my children…Am I a bigot for thinking this or just wanting the best life for myself and my children?
