Well at least they are doing improvements in your town PA.  Here, they had a patch paved on the street well re-paved, just a small corner.  Not an entire street to the tune of 250,000.

So, to me that means we won't have our street re-paved in my lifetime.  Let alone lights, or anything else.

Sub,

there was another blunder.   They redid the curb so there is no passing lane.   Sounds doable for some until you see the ambulance can not get thru..

This light was not what was mailed to the residents and it was not at the diagrams at the city meetings.

There was nothing wrong with the old lights.    Poof- there goes 3 million $.   The construction never ends.

After a handful of people die now that the ambulance cant get thru they will redo parts of the curb.  for another large sum of money.

In order to get tourist dollars you have to invest money to make it a place someone wants to visit..

In my neighborhood they spent lots of money on a world class convention center, they have built up the harbor to be a fun place to visit, there is LOTS of wonderful lighting effects everywhere, and we get a boatload of business from these things that adds to the vibrancy of the city...

You got to spend money to make money.

Even if you like the design it clashes.    Not appropriate for a town built in the 1800s.    Colonial houses-

This is not what we were sold.   We thought we were getting quaint olden day lamps.    It makes me wonder what other mistakes they made.

Supposedly the amphitheater will "put us on the map".  crunch the numbers- and I dont see it.   We already have venues!!!     So the homeowners will end up paying in the end.

Somehow- I think many will find this design to be -  not what we wanted.    Oh well.   It could be worse.

In this town there are 292 people. The only tax dollars that come in are from the two bars and the very small gas station.

That and keno revenue. So you've got to have money to spend money.

The problem for you is your officials went above your heads and did something you did not feel you approved....

I will tell you part of the charm of a prosperous area is the mix of old and new. The Old roots the place, and the New gives an air of prosperity... and unless it is some place where you would expect to find historical reenactments I see no reason why you should not be happy about progress in your city

My view looks out on Rainbow Harbor. I can see the lights turn different dramatic colors from my apartment. I LOVE THIS, and I live in a historic building

Something tells me they got grants to help pay for their project

Maybe I do have to see the finished project.

I am glad we are not rotting away.        I was hoping that once we become a music destination- I could sell at a decent price- and move to the country.   So this project very well could enable that- particularly if we attract people from the metro areas who do not blink at house prices.  Sure I could get a buyer now- but I would not get any equity out.   it is not really that they did not have my permission- just that they went with something so extreme.   Contrary to every other project we have done.    Small town charm is what denotes the area.    Of course anyone buying will - the price would have to check out with the bank.   The families that would pay it - could never get the loan, have no money-- and renting to them I would not do either not with 3 dogs they will not part with- as I have hardwood floors in some of the house.

When they picked out the trees for the downtown area- it was a very meticulous process.

BTW, I looked up the moon lights, and they are LED lighting, which means they are energy efficient. This was perhaps part of the reason for their selection

someone else in Australia said the lighting is cool.

hmmm.   The design tho just is still awkward.  Usually they soften up- cell phone towers and that sort of thing to be non-intrusive.
