So I think my own windows program is sending me security updates. But I ended up downloading My Security Shield. Ugh. The rougue program infiltrates everthing and messes with disabling other programs and browser. Then I ended up buying a program I thought was ten dollars. But then it turns out to be 40. You have to mail in the rebate. But it says 10 dollars when you go to purchase. Then I have another malware suite I thought was free and I uninstalled it to go with the 10 dollar one but I cant get rid of the icon.

So last night Was dealing with malicious software and having to download fixes on another computer.

Please be aware of these programs that come up and say you are infected to get you to purchase their program. They look like part of your windows updates

I feel so violated..

The one I am referring to is My Security Shield. Its not a anti virus program. Its a virus

oh lushy im sorry - i had one of those too. they scare the crap out of you, telling you youre not protected and youre computer is going to fry - i followed the arrows up to the point where they wanted money and then i smelt the rat in the poopile - but since id gone down the process far enough the fecking thing started chewing through my files anyway.

a friend sorted it out for me thank fully.

Lushy - I'm sorry you feel violated, and not in that good way.

These things are a pain and happen to everybody. I work in IT and can assure you it happens inside organizations with good AV, web filters and firewalls. Something worth having is a secondary internet browser like Crome or Firefox as malware usually targets Internet Explorer and prevent it from accessing sites that can help with removal. Also a lot of the search results for those things are poisoned and you have to be careful which ones you use.

Is it resolved now?

Yes, I know. My ex BF is in IT and he accidntally downloaded a virus on his wrok server when he was looking for a program for me. He had to clean that mess up.
It is taken care of. But it had infiltrated all the browsers and kept crashing them. So I had to download on another PC and put it on a flashdrive. Now The Malware suite program that I didnt use still shows up as a program in the icons but I did uninstall it.Thats what I have left. I did download Stopzilla program. The manual way was too detailed plus the virus made it impossible for me to get to the Task Manager to get rid of it. That virus was quite a doozy. I dont know if I have any problems with my wondows yet. Havent seen any so far. But well see if everything is in working order.

I got that one last week. I had my son look up a fix on his pc, he downloaded it on to a flash drive for me, I installed it in safemode. I then turned on my PC as normal. It ran and removed that malicious spyware (it called it a trojan). I then restarted my computer. It would not go on the internet so I had windows go back to an earlier time..

it did not take all that long to deal with

I had a nasty one not too long ago.

Go to www.microsoft.com, and to to the downloads area, look for the latest Malicious Spyware removal tool, new versions are released the second Tuesday of the month.

If it finds anything, there's a program called ComboFix that might be able to help you get rid of the infection, if the microsoft product is not successful in the removal.

I fought with one of those for months, literally. Some rogue website dumped some junk in my pc. I tried a free junk removal program only to find out it was free to detect but you had to pay for it to remove anything. In the end the program itself was some rogue virus. Blue something or other. I could reset my pc to an earlier date and it would work fine for a week or two. In the end I had to reload Windows, but a better AV program and ultimately be more judicious about the sites I visit (that was the basic problem).

I just reformatted my Win98SE machine to use it as a keyboard emulator (Hammond B-3 and stuff like that). Man, a clean machine is a happy machine. My WinXP reload on this machine was not a reformat but I am thinking about doing that on this one, too since all of my data is backed up on dvd or on USB drives or both.

I heard that even AVG is not safe, that if you DL it from anywhere other than their site it might be malware or virus. This sounds like a similar situation. To address the problem all I can think of right now is not take anything they offer, go look for what you need. In the Google or whatever window look at the URL, and see if it makes sense, and once clicked, look at the lil window at the top of the browser to make sur that you are where you think you are.

I had this happen last week with a piece of crap called "Antivir Solution Pro". Anyone who gets this and only has one computer is pretty screwed, because it locks the browsers (IE, FF and Opera) and will only bring up the page where they try to extort you for $60, pages with big ads for viagra, and some porn site I never heard of. It also prevents any anti-virus/ anti malware software from running or being installed. I got on my other lappy and found removal instructions, but it took hours and about 16 restarts. Spybot S&D finally rooted it out and got rid of it.

This is true for any software, not just AVG. Using a valid software package to distribute a malicious payload has been commonplace since long before the internet became popular and people traded software on floppy disks and bulletin board systems over 300 baud dial-up. Never download software from questionable sources unless you're willing able to deal with the consequences.

If you do get one they are actually pretty simple to fix, if you know where to go and what to do.

First reboot in "Safemode with Networking" mode.

Open IE and go to Tools>connections>LAN settings and uncheck the proxy settings box that the rogue spyware checked.

You can now surf the net without interference.

Then got to cnet's download site and download malwarebyte's free program. It is really free, unless you want a version that automatically runs. Do a full system scan and it will pick up 2 or 3 infected items to delete.

It cleared up antivir in one attempt.

There is a second malware removal program recommended, but I forget the name, and malwarebyte's worked so I didnt bother going back to it.

Good programs:

Malwarebytes
Superantispyware
PCtools
Threatfire

If you have XP, go into safe mode with networking, choose administrator and disable the evil doer enough so that you can kill it. For the most part on an XP you will find it in C:\Document and Settings\Application data\.... check for some weird file that looks similar to this oculiejowe3jro.. ect. Notice that nothing in there makes sense if you try to make a word from it.
Delete the file after making sure that when you opened the file it has the icon for that rogue program.
Install the above programs, update and run them.

If you have Vista or 7, you will find the rogue program in
C:\Users\App\Local ... once again look for a file that makes no spelling sense. Inside you will find an icon that looks like that rogue program you saw on your computer.
DO NOT delete any file that does not have that icon inside.

I was inflicted with some gnarly trojans that neither the commercial stuff nor malwarebytes, etc. could handle. I was blocked from windows update and the windows security center, and system restore was blocked.

Finally had to wipe the drive and start over. A good weekend's entertainment.

Just follow the links on each page to download the programs. Also listed in my order of preference for effectiveness.

You spent last night dealing with malware? I have been fighting the Antivirus Solution Pro malware on my computer since Monday night continuously. It came in with a torrent that I downloaded. Working in Safe Mode lowered the refreshing frequency of the monitor, so Tuesday night I had a headache and was nauseous.

I ran the free version of Spyhunter but that removed only fifteen threats. Further not so serious threats - malware porn sites - that it indicated I removed manually from the registry. Unfortunately it also indicated a registry entry of Spybot Search & Destroy as malware, and when I deleted that from the registry there were a host of new problems. At last I uninstalled SS&D, and downloaded it again three times for when installing it asks permission to make a backup of the registry and that twice stalled my computer.

I often ran a free version of HitmanPro and that was very useful, though I had to remove all threats that it indicated manually as it was not a paid version. One exe file (ohydy.exe), though, was hidden and I had some trouble finding it, until I found out how to unhide files and folders.

I often ran Spybot Search and Destroy and that also was very useful.

Then there was my free Avira antivirus program. I ran it many times and it found and dealt with the a lot of the malware.

I ran the free version of Spyware Doctor and it was useful. I also ran free versions of RegistryBooster and RegistryMechanic. Eventually I went to a shop, getting drenched by rain, looking to buy RegistryBooster, but they did not have any. So instead I bought Spyware Doctor for 25 euro's. I deleted the free version, installed the bought version, ran it and it found and dealt with the malware.

I downloadeded Spyware Terminator and it found and dealt with the malware. Unfortunately it also identified some part of Spyware Doctor as malware and deleted that part. I had to uninstall Spyware Doctor and to reinstall it to get it functioning again.

I am now praying that the malware has been completely removed from my computer. This morning I have switched on for the first time in a week my 1.5 Tb external hard disk where the torrent downloaded to (I had already removed the two infected parts of that torrent) and now I have Avira antivirus again do a sweep of my system, this time including the external hard disk. I will much later today or tomorrow after Avira has finished also run Spyware Doctor and SS&D and Spyware Terminator again.

Everyone: MAKE A BACK-UP OF YOUR REGISTRY. Do it now; it is simple and will save you a host of problems if your computer ever gets infected by malware.
