Murdoch jacks up White House's annual WSJ bill by $600,000...

Gosh- dont they already have ads in that paper?

It isn't like there is a tree shortage.

Consider that the pay wall is not going well in the UK.

I know that some cash has to be afforded to journalists- but how much so when a good portion of it is talking points?

which brings me back the - paper- doesn't it have ads in it already?

He is probably trying to offset the huge increase in taxes that will come in January of 2011...

I love it. The White House skinned their collective knees and noses with that incredibly stupid assault on Fox news, now they get to pay if they want the product from Murdoch's corporation. Maybe it would be cheaper to just get a few subscriptions.

Lemon juice in the wounds, baby, and they started it.

So you`re saying that rupert is a petty little boy who can`t take criticism.

Looks like you have something in common.[:D]

They may drop the rupert street journal.

So who lost there?[:D]

Of course, Murdoch's got a competing clipping news service:

"For the past decade, Democratic and Republican administrations alike have paid a small Virginia-based media company $100,000 or more each year to prepare customized packages of excerpts from print, TV, radio and blog outlets. Bulletin News of Reston performs the labor-intensive searches, which would otherwise require the hiring of government staff, every night starting at 9 p.m., delivering a package of article extracts and Web links to the West Wing by 5 a.m. each morning.

The Journal, which sits behind a licensed pay wall, has always been part of the package — until now.
Earlier this month, a Bulletin News executive informed the White House of the fee increase, which appears to have been motivated by Murdoch’s business model, not his conservative politics.

The too-big-to-pay rate increases have also been passed along to Bulletin News’s other administration clients, not only the White House, according to a person briefed on the dust-up.

Dow Jones, the News Corp. subsidiary that publishes the Journal, runs its own aggregation service, Factiva. A spokeswoman told POLITICO the White House could get itself a substantially better deal if they cut out the middleman — Bulletin News — and negotiated directly with Dow Jones’s sales team.

"The prices that have been provided are being quoted by a third-party news aggregator, not the Wall Street Journal,” Dow Jones spokeswoman Ashley Huston said. “They do not reflect the true cost to the end-user. We're happy to speak with any party directly to discuss accurate pricing for a subscription."

No. That sounds more like the guys who are now going to be paying extra to know just how they are being criticized.

Yeah, Murdoch has been trying to figure out how to raise the profitability of the WSJ since he took it over.

May be worth mentioning that Kevin Kline played a man clearly based on Murdoch in the John Cleese movie Fierce Creatures.

Dude, I'm just quoting the article.  Are ya going to get up at 3am and do it for the White House?  All those papers, not just WSJ?  Feel free to go into business, but 1 guy ain't gonna do it.  Shit, I read like a banshee and couldn't do it.
