Glasgow -> Sarcasm Font (7/13/2010 7:19:47 PM)

Alright. We all know what we need is a good sarcasm font. I would like to propose that we use a regular font sarcastically. I nominate Courier New, since not many people use it and it is clearly discernible from the other fonts.

For example:
Why, I found many of the posts on this thread to be well thought-out and enlightening.

And please, no using the sarcasm font sarcastically. That is just messed up and super confusing.

It's okay, I like you as a person anyway.

Why would I give away one of the easiest ways I know to cull the stupid from new acquaintances???

Because they won't be able to get it. That is the magic of the sarcasm font.

Alternatively, it could only be used in situations where it is very unclear whether or not you meant the comment or not (see the example above).

DCWoody -> RE: Sarcasm Font (7/13/2010 7:56:29 PM)

I use this font as my sarcasm font.

I GOT THE PERFECT FONT !

I just don't know what to do with it. I extracted it from a program years ago, more like a decade ago. It's called jolt.ttf, which means it is a true type font and should be incorporable into most browsers and even the CM software.

It looks like letters made from lightning bolts, and in fact if you want a tatoo using that font there is only one place to get it, at Termy's Terminal. I could upload it, or send it out to a bunch of members but since I don't own it legally I don't think CM would accept it. Remember they are trying to stay squeaky clean.

The problem with a font is that if I send it to you and tell you how to install it, yes you can use it. But you can't use it with opthers on the net, they have to have it too or it doesn't work. Their browser will just use the default.

Now an install on demand could be written, and most spyware and virus scanners won't like it, you would have to manually enable it, but then we are still talking about something that I don't legally own.

Really I never gave a shit about what is legal and what is not, but there are times in life when you just don't want anymore problems.

I'll send you jolt.ttf if you want, but don't think you can use it and it will show up to other users automatically. It just doesn't work that way.

This is a site that's mostly used by North Americans. How would having a sarcasm font be of any use?  It'd be a bit like having a special font for when we want to write in Ancient Phoenician.

BentUnit -> RE: Sarcasm Font (7/14/2010 3:12:27 AM)

Every thing I write has a certain sort of bitterly honest caustic sarcasm.

I'm told that irony and sarcasm is wasted on Americans?!?!?

I wonder if most of what I write isn't lost in translation from true English into American?

I'm sure the Brits and other Commonwealth Countries get my wit.

Apocalypso -> RE: Sarcasm Font (7/14/2010 3:51:08 AM)

I think we should pander to people who can't portray sarcasm through a text medium without a special font.

BentUnit -> RE: Sarcasm Font (7/14/2010 3:53:03 AM)

With me, Darling, I think it's safe to say that Sarcasm is an absolute given.

You're probably quite right.  I was being ironic earlier.  [;)]

I never noticed that the forum doesn't have comic sans as an option. What's up with that?

Vendaval -> RE: Sarcasm Font (7/14/2010 2:47:59 PM)

Roger that, send out an e-mail and have a meeting to get everyone on the same page. [sm=friends.gif]
