No matter what you thought about him, he was passionate and quite a character.

I heard about this.  and him.  it came over the radio this AM.

There were times his behavior (the Howie Spira incident, apologising to New York after the '81 W.S...the fight in the elevator)made me cringe, with all of that said ...as a life long fan of The New York Yankees the one overiding fact is that he restored that brand to its once glorious, and in some quarters hated, position on top of  the sport world.
Whether you hate the Yankees or love the Yankees it is an undeniable fact that it is good for baseball when they are sucessful......and George made them wildly sucessful!
Rest in Peace Boss

If congress re-enacts the estate tax, the Yankees might have to be sold to pay it.

This could change the landscape of baseball big time.

I will shed no tears.....:)

I'm sorry, I was basking in the warm glow of a slowly unraveling Yankee team owned by a multi-national conglomerate. A Yankee team that struggles to play .500 ball.

Did you say something?

No problem Jefff....let me ask you a question.....Given the value of the brand(some sort of return on investment heh,he and his partners bought this brand for less than 10 million dollars, very little of which was actually George's money lol,and now it is worth something like 1.8 Billion dollars)and the number of organizational fuckups all that money can simply slough off with nary a twitch.....how do you actually envision this return to the CBS Yankees taking place?
You are banking on the sons being major league fuck ups when all evidence seems to indicate the sons seem pretty capable.Heck they already have one ring....and seem to be well on the way to ,at he least make a run at,another ring!
No.28 just in case you have lost track [:)]

RIP George... my only regret is that you didn't own the Lastros.

sexyred1 -> RE: George Steinbrenner dead (7/13/2010 5:15:00 PM)

Anyone who hates George Steinbrenner is jealous. Simple.

He endeavored to make the greatest team in the world and he got it.

End of story and RIP George.

A lifelong Yankee fan.

This Mets fan hopes that Mr. S. will rest in peace and offers condolences to his friends and family.

KatyLied -> RE: George Steinbrenner dead (7/13/2010 7:09:18 PM)

I heart The Yankees.  The guy I am dating can't stand them.  It makes for wonderful rounds of mutual teasing.

RIP George.

divi -> RE: George Steinbrenner dead (7/13/2010 7:11:40 PM)
