ORIGINAL: LafayetteLady Googling someone before meeting when you have spoken for a while, although still somewhat inappropriate, is not the same as getting a first email from someone or looking at profiles and then pasting chunks into Google to see if they are fake. For one thing, we've all talked about how easy it is to spot the fakes, so if someone needs to resort to checking their profile for plagearism, perhaps their bullshit meter is on the fritz and they shouldn't be looking for anyone until they get that problem fixed. What is "plagearism"? Posting the same profile to multiple sites, claiming to be from multiple geographic regions simultaneously isn't plaigarism. How is it even remotely "inappropriate", as you say, to background-check an acquaintance (especially an online acquaintance) before becoming more closely involved with them? Obviously, my "bullshit meter" as you so elegantly put it, is working just fine, since it was confirmed by my check. Unlike some, I tend to check on things before drawing conclusions.
