Somethingrandom -> Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 1:38:32 AM)

I just heard on the radio today that "the artist formerly known as Prince" declared that the internet is now passe------ like MTV, it had it's day, and now it's done, he says.

I'm not so sure I disagree, at least when it comes to trying to meet someone. There are so many more fake spam/scam ads than real profiles now.  What will emerge to replace the net as a filtering/searching tool?

Everyone seems so overworked and overbooked, it seems more unrealistic than ever that you could meet a match in realspace.....

So you use the net and places like this, facebook or even twitter to network and in the case of BDSM find where your local groups are and about munches or play Dungeons where you can meet people face to face and get known. The net is running well as so many e-commerce including me can attest.

Good old prince, mad as a sack of frogs.

He's releasing his next album by giving it away for free on CD with a daily red-top newspaper... Because, yeah - CD's are the new thing on the block (as are print-based news papers).

Prince = Jackass who can wail like it's 1999.

I think the internet will be with us for a while - but who knows? [:D]

Lve -> RE: Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 2:48:41 AM)

Pretty sure the internet will be here longer then me.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 3:01:24 AM)

Well, he actually isn't "the artist formerly known as Prince" anymore, he went back to being Prince.

So you are going to believe a has been music celebrity about what is technologically passe?

RCdc -> RE: Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 3:12:27 AM)

I haven't heard or read his article, but I do know hes giving away his music.  He did it for his last one (I think).  Internets not over, but he may be talking about the whole way music is pretty much pointless on it, so he has a point.  You might as well give your discs away and cut out the middle men.  Live shows and apperences are where the money lays for artists these days and writing - which is something Prince does in abundance.

I know that he can write songs and play a guitar but I'm unaware he can predict the future.

It's not just about the future,it's about the now.
'Selling' your work on the net doesn't net music artists more than a few pence.  That is why people like Radiohead, NiN and others offer their work free now.  Before, it was the record companies, now it's places like itunes getting the profits.  Artists have to pay to put their shit on there.  Why bother when they can give it away free,or when people can get it free elsewhere?

Oh DS, the man was already partying like it's 1999 in 1982. Prince is the only time traveler I know. Plus, he's prolly right, one day, something will replace the internet, don't know what yet or something will make it blow up like the current bank system kinda blew up. I just don't think it is passé now, but who knows, maybe Prince traveled to the year 2025 and saw nobody used the internet (and if he still has time travel jet lag, he still thinks he is in 2025 now). I sure hope he did, it would make me less anxious on December 31st 2011.

Elisabella -> RE: Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 5:00:32 AM)

bwahaha internet's not over. It's permeated every facet of existence. I don't have a tv, I watch tv online. Same with music lol what's a radio? what's a CD? I'm more likely to check the internet for shopping before going to the mall if there's something I want. Online video games are huge and I doubt anyone buys porn dvd's anymore lol.

Something's only "over" when it's replaced by something newer and better.

Yep. Not even close. He's been making brilliant music for what 25 years? He's incredibly talented and sells out concerts and appearances all over the world. Poor Prince. [;)].

I'm told one in 8 relationships starts online today. If you have difficulty successfully having relationships, don't blame the internet. The only constant in all your relationships is you.

I thought he was known as Prince these days?  Anywhoo, "Purple Rain" is simply beautiful.

More like a "never was".

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Is the Internet "Over"? (7/8/2010 6:42:14 AM)

Prince has always been arrogant. Even when no one knew who he was and he was brand new. Remember he would not contribute to Guitar band? He said people should go out and take lessons. I think Guitar Band may actually inspire people to do that.

But in any event hes always acted like he thought he was better than everyone else.
Yet, I still think he's sexy as hell and hes great in concert.
