When I type text I look up from time to time. That's when I notice that every thing I wrote is messy. What happens is that the cursor jumps around without permission within the text that I have already written. This leaves me with gibberish that needs to be edited again. Its driving me nuts.

Does anyone else suffer from this?

Does anyone know what causes it, or what may be done about it ?

The very few things I could come up with are perhaps you are hitting the tab key or arrow keys in error?
Also, little teenie weenie particles of just about anything could be playing around under some or many of your keys.
Tilt the key board upside down and give it a good shake. You'll be surprised what shows up, and it may be the culprit.
Good luck!

Do you use a laptop?

I do, and occasionally have the same problem. I found that it happened when my cursor was somewhere else on the page and the heel of my hand would hit the "mouse pad" (don't know the actual term...) on my keyboard and move the cursor. I just had to be more careful about keeping my hands up.

I have the same problem with a laptop except it's my thumb that taps the mousepad.

If it happens to me, its either cos I have stoopid fingers, or a program/ process has taken over the cursor
I write tons and find out its gone walkabout
drives me nuts

I dont thnk this is the problem either. I have googled for "cursor jumping about in text" etc, and had many hits. its a common problem. But I have yet to find the solution.

My computer will do this sometimes if I am having it do too many things at once.   Especcially if you are typing in firefox (or whatever your web browser) while loading pages in another window or tab.  One chat site I use has an autoreload feature to see if anyone has sent mail and using that has caused my cursor to go to the wrong place more than anything else so far.

What OS are you using? I have that problem constantly on my Vista machine, but it's never happened on my XP computer.

It isn't just the Vista that does it. I have that problem with my Dell/Vista but I also have it with this Netbook/Windows 7. It is really annoying.

Are you on a laptop?  If so, you're thumbs could be hitting the cursor pad and moving the cursor around while you're typing, I know, that's happened to me and it's infuriating!  You have to really watch it.  I also touch type, though, so I always see it when it happens.  It's still a pain.

When you have a proper mouse plugged in, kill the pad. To find the right function, check keys F1 to F12 until, in most computers, an icon resembling a mouse pad. Press the Fn key located somewhere on the lower left corner. Press both keys at the same time, and the pad is disabled. Short of that, there should be a setting section for that in your control panel. Also, this can happen with a badly damaged laser mouse used without a pad.

I don't suppose your laptop has a clit mouse in the middle of the keyboard? Otherwise I would imagine your hand brushes every so lightly against the pad at the base of the keyboard. I that may be it perhaps could try decreasing your double click time?

Hi I have Vista also. It might just be a problem with the OS then. I never had it with 3.1, win95, win97, or 2000

If you're using a trackpad it's more likely that you're accidentally brushing against it as you type.

Jin's post above explains how to turn off the trackpad when using a USB mouse. If you don't want to get a separate mouse, you can also set it so that tapping the trackpad won't click, you have to actually click one of the buttons.

I cant touch type. I usually am the other side of ten words when I find out. Now I'm getting eye strain from darting from pad to screen.

I'm going to be especially careful from now on to be sure I dont touch anything I shouldnt while typing.Maybe thats it. It has not happened at all during this brief post. Maybe you just fixed it for me right here.

Blows kisses- thanks XXX
