Reggie Rogers, DE, Lions: Killed three teenagers after running a stop sign.

Rae Carruth, WR, Panthers: Decided to avoid 18 years of paying out the rear end by having the baby and the mother killed. (Fortunately, the child survived.) So Rae will instead spend the next 18 years or so paying up the rear end.


Mossy Cade, CB, Packers: Little-known defensive back who wins a spot on the list for being convicted of raping . . . his own aunt.

Put em all in a large metal canister and arm them with axes.  I don't play favorites, slime is slime.

Here is where the men boo and hiss....but this country puts far too much importance on sports.   What happened to being an influence for the youth?  We are sending a message to every street thug that strolls a boulevard, take up a sport and you too can be absolved of your crimes, plus make a tidy amount of money.

If a someone exhibits criminal actions, just because they happen to have talent on the football field ( or baseball, soccer, hockey, etc ), doesn't mean they deserve a "get out of jail" card.   We aren't talking about something that happened accidently, but acts that were planned out and with purpose.   It reminds me of a line from the musical Chicago, spoken by a woman being held in jail for killing her husband.  It was an accident, "he ran into my knife....he ran into my knife seven times".

No sports figure should be employed once they committ a crime, if not for the moral reason, then for the message we are sending to the younguns.

Any person "convicted", not simply accused of a crime, should be removed from sports, period.   A crime is not something that should be swept under the carpet, it's involving an illegal action.   Why should we reward a sports figure with any form of salary for doing what he/she loves to do....let them go on and earn a living without fanfare and six digit paychecks.  If they aren't serving time.

Status: offline 		Convicted?  At what level?  Felon?  Misdemeanor?  Traffic citation?  I do not think professional athletes should be held to a higher standard because kids are watching them, unless you are willing to move that to everyone in the public eye, such as politicians, etc.  Why single out athletes and their crimes?

Status: offline 		We think differently KatyLied, on the issue of being held to a higher level of morals if you are in the spotlight and an example for kids.   I don't feel "just" atheletes are in this category, however they are the easiest to discuss since this thread is about a scumbag who is blatantly laughing at those who felt he truly was sorry for his actions.   How is he laughing?  By ignoring the rules of his parole.  Why is he laughing?  Because he was told that his worth as an athelete meant more to the public then the remorse he should have felt.   I'm sure he laughed all the way to the bank.

I agree with you, in that anyone who is in the public view should practice traveling the high road more often.  I targeted sports, because it was the most flagrant display.   Don't get me started on the fact our teachers in this country are grossly underpaid, while young, green rookies often start out at over a million annually.

Politicians...well, they are a different species :)   In a perfect world they would be held accountable for the lies and broken promises.  I don't know many kids who collect politician cards though.

Not this man, Lisa. I completely agree. I wouldn't go so far as to say anyone convicted of any crime should be barred from playing pro sports, but I'm with you on your basic position. Punks like Vick are a major reason I hardly care about professional sports anymore. I don't watch basketball or baseball at all anymore, and only follow football if there's a Packers or Saints game on. I'm a fan of those two teams, but not the game. To me, the only thing that makes a game interesting to watch is if I care about whether one side or the other wins. And if i can't stand the players because they're a bunch of whiny, greedy, egomaniacal thugs, I don't care whether any of them win or lose. And at that point, I can no longer find any reason to be interested in the sport.
