No, they're not!  I didn't go to a prom, but I do see it as a valuable opportunity to wear a really gorgeous long ball gown or dress with all the lace and sparkles and frills one could possibly sport.

What an absolutely amazing event. I wish every city had something similar for those teens.

My prom was great...we were very silly & we did make a right spectacle of ourselves

Kudos to this Scharf guy, its a great idea and a worthy cause, he's right these kids do deserve a chance to enjoy themselves in a non-judgmental atmosphere.

Many many cities also have a gay and lesbian prom that is quite a joy for people who aren't able to go to their prom because of prejudice.

The prom is a rite of passage in a culture that almost completely lacks them...

Here is the thing, I think the obnoxious sums of money spent on them by parents who are competing with other parents... well that really is disgusting, but that does not mean I am against proms, just douchebag parents that think getting their kids the best limos, a weekend in Hawaii afterwards for their kid and their friends to continue the party (often unchaperoned)) and that sort of nonsense, I am against that

I know, I'm bad, but I just can't help myself...

Prom night in the 'hood

It's the helicopter hairdo. I could have resisted the temptation except for that.
