The worms can leave the animal's anus and crawl up yours.  That's pretty fucking contagious.

angelikaJ -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 5:40:27 AM)

Which worms are you talking about?

DarlingSavage -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 5:53:09 AM)

What's your degree in?

angelikaJ -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 6:04:15 AM)

DarlingSavage,

Obviously, our sources are very different.
Your information was something I had not heard before and I find it interesting.
This is not about my trying to prove you wrong. This is about my insatiable curiosity and if you have facts that differ from mine and prove mine wrong I would like to know. I don't like passing out bad information based on wrong facts and shoddy research.

What follows is a part of the information I looked up this morning.

re Roundworms:
"Humans become infected with roundworms when they ingest infective eggs from the soil or from their hands or another object. Large numbers of the eggs can accumulate in the soil where dogs and cats are allowed to defecate. The eggs are sticky, and can collect on the hands and under the fingernails of people. Children, and others who may not have good hygiene, are most prone to becoming infected."

re Hookworms
"People become infected with hookworms when the hookworm larvae in the ground penetrate through the skin. Persons who have contact with the ground, especially for long periods of time, such as plumbers or electricians, and sunbathers, especially those lying on wet sand or ground, are at increased risk."

Just a couple well known org's and their statements on cat parasites.  Hope this helps with your questions :)   I'm a dog person myself, but have had cats in my past, keeping things spotlessly clean seems to be the common agreement in avoiding problems.

I've seen animals with bad cases and the worms were crawling out of the animal's rear end.  It was disgusting.  I just came to a logical conclusion that they could travel from point A to point B.  Particularly if you are sleeping with the animal.

pahunkboy -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 6:35:17 AM)

Yes- but I wear underwear.

Silly lady.

DarlingSavage -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 6:42:47 AM)

As long as your safe, that's all that matters.

pahunkboy -> RE: de-worming the cat. (6/27/2010 6:49:07 AM)

anyhow- I hope the pills work.

I wonder how long before they take effect.

I do think they are doing something.   BTW- she HAS worms.  This is not me- being hypochrondriac.

SirPumpy -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/4/2010 4:59:26 AM)

Ive usually used drop on de wormers and parasite treatments for farm cats but for the particularly stubborn units I usually apply Rule 12G at close range.

Can be messy but very effective and you don't get scratched up.

LaTigresse -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/4/2010 7:57:42 AM)

I use a liquid wormer that I mix into the dogs and cats food.

And yes you CAN get parasites from your pets. My daughter got worms from a stray cat, about 15 years ago. The doctor gave us all a worm med, just to be safe.

Does not matter. Your clothing is very little protection against a very small, crawling parasite.

LAT,

I am not dumping my cat.  Period.

She has showed signs of improvement.  Yay.   Now to figure the 10 days to treat her again.

xxblushesxx -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/5/2010 6:21:25 AM)

I can't find where she told you to dump your cat.

But you realllly need a good basic cat book. Try Think like a cat: http://www.amazon.com/Think-Like-Cat-Well-Adjusted-Cat-Not/dp/0140288546/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278335988&sr=8-1

yeah...just so you know she is also figuring the 10 days and planning her revenge.[image]http://www.millan.net/minimations/toolminis/hissycat.gif[/image] you're doomed, Hunky

And Hunky...no one is suggesting you get rid of the cat...not at all.

BentUnit -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/5/2010 6:46:13 AM)

Anyone suggesting that using a 12 gauge shot gun on a frightened animal who hasn't had basic socialization needs a dose of solid shot.  Period.
You, sir (and trust me I use that term with a liberal does of sarcasm and a sneer) are an arse.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/5/2010 7:30:28 AM)

Some dogs absolutely adore going to the vet, but it's rare I know. My dog absolutely hates the vet place, and so did my moms dog, and my cocker spaniel was neutral until they started handling him, then he was like  I BEEN HAD!!!

I will not take a pet to the vets if I can at all help it, as animals can smell fear, and vets to animals are full of fear, a fear of unfamiliar places and humans they don't know doing things to them.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: de-worming the cat. (7/5/2010 7:35:49 AM)

Nobody has said dump your cat, they've simply said your cat CAN make you sick, and that you wear underwear is not a deter int to creepy crawlies.
