Unfortunately though as cliche is it may be, 90% of my pics are of me with my arms crossed over my chest and 95% of me not smiling.

Uasually when the camera comes out I go the other way

Looking the other way is fine too! A profile or 3/4 shot is lovely... When a man has his arms crossed, the body language is "not approachable" and "angry" That's reality. However, what's most important is that you feel comfortable.
