Flirting for Favors
BettyConfidential.com, on Thu Jun 24, 2010 4:58am PDT

I once talked a car down off a tow truck. It took thirty minutes of sweet talk, two West Hollywood sheriffs and one extremely short sundress. But I got that car down. To this day, I point to the great Tow Truck Escape as my claim to flirting fame.

Women rarely realize the great untapped resource of feminine persuasion. From talking a car off a tow truck to talking AT&T into a refund for all those dropped calls – you’d be amazed at what you can get with just a sugary voice and a smile. (Not that the skill is limited to women, I’ve met men who could flirt me under the table ...).

Flirting For Favors, or FFF, has become a bit of a sport for me.

...

Here are seven steps to fruitful FFFing:

1. Say hello.
2. Humanize.
3. Flatter.
4. Create a stir.
5. Change course if necessary.
6. Fawn.
7. Women and children, too.

The article is longer, and she explains the seven steps in greater detail.

My questions:

How many women:

1.  Understand the almost drug like power they have over men? and
2.  Use flirting as a normal method of getting along, and getting what you want/need?

I'm not judging.  I like flirting.  I'm also amazed sometimes how easy men are for a woman to "manage" with just a smile and a wink.

1. *understands*
2. Flirting is the way I communicate. It's par for the course.

When I don't flirt, be very afraid... I either can't stand you and won't bother giving you any energy... or I'm wildly attracted and can't speak.

(I'm working on that last one... anyone want to help me? Must be willing to deal with the *blush blush factor* and be patient and enjoy the struggle)

(sorry to hijack your thread there Firm, but you understand don't you, you gloriously delightful sweetheart [sm=couple.gif] Surely you won't hold it against lil ole me... I mean, oh *hold it against me* and such, but don't ... well you know. *wink) How was that?

Firm, there was a doop over on the Mistress board who tried to convince us that the Powers O Flirtation were a sign of DOMINANCE. Um. Yeah. Sure.

Firm, if this topic interests you, you might be interested in a recent thread that we had in Ask A Mistress entitled The natural power that women have over men... which addressed some of this.

I personally prefer to use authentic charm than to flirt. But then, for some, what I consider to be authentic charm might be considered flirting. It's a fine line.

LA (and LadyHibiscus),

Thanks for the info.  I'll check it out.

I'm not sure that I'd agree that "the power of flirting" is about dominance, per se ... I think it is a technique to get along in life, and especially effective for women.

I use absolutely whatever skill I possess, flirting or otherwise, to get what I need to get done. However, I first ananlyze the man, then I take what steps I feel are needed. Is he a rather shy type, a tad insecure? Then I become sweeter, a bit more warm and gentle, lightly touching his arm, etc., but if it's a high power type, like the gentlemen from Rhode Island I have been trying to close all week, then I become much more masculine "sexy". tighter suits, having scoth and cigars with themat happy hour, a bit more suggestive with my language. It's all part of getting what you want. You can't use the same approach with all men, anymore than it works to treat us all the same. I love to flirt, and I love love love the company of men, and making them comfortable, engaging them in banter, while still never losing sight of the goal. If I sense a man warming to me and there is something he may have that could of benefit to me, I will absolutely "flirt" to achieve that. Hey, when it stops working I'll stop doing it right?[;)]

Oh I don't agree that the power of flirting is about total dominance, ie: that submissive women can't do it as well. No no.

I do however think that in the instance that a woman is flirting, she is in control. In the instance that she is Domme, she can build on that. In the instance that she is submissive, it can part of the fun interplay of power exchange? Perhaps I'll let a submissive woman answer that one as she'll have a better perspective.

*hijack* Sunny love, can you call me in my morning, anytime after 8? I would so love to talk. [:)].

GR:

Not my style. While I sometimes enjoying being playful and flirty just for fun, I wouldn't use it as a technique to get what I want, or to get a favor. I lose respect very quickly for men who can be led around by their dicks like a teenaged boy. Likely they'd also want a "favor" in return.

Having said that, I absolutely have and will act in ways that will get me the results I want from a person. Not so much with men specifically, and not in a personal relationship, but in any type of situation where I need someone in my corner, I will not hesitate to behave and speak to him/her in a way that promotes their willingless to help me.

ncprincess -> RE: Flirting for Favors (6/25/2010 7:59:17 PM)

I understand the power of flirting VERY well. From the moment I was legal to drive I have been flirting my way out of tickets. I've perfected the art over the phone as well. It really helps in my line of work....if someone is upset when they call in all I usually have to do is turn up the charm and really lay on the southern accent and I have a happy customer by the time they are hanging up...usually with requests for personal emails and cell numbers...lol

I understand.

Men can and do flirt to get what they want as well.

I do think there is a continuum of how we interact with other people, and that flirting is on one end of that scale.

An example from my experiences:

I absolutely hate call centers, when you have a problem, or have to get some piece of equipment "activated".  Just yesterday, I was trying to activate a HD cable box that Comcast had shipped to us.

The first guy wasn't so bad.  I had almost all my numbers and identifications ready ... but ... they didn't have a record of the very box that they had sent me, and he had to "put me on hold for less than 3 minutes, while he transferred me to the billing department to straighten it out".

Uh huh.  About 15 minutes later, another (female) rep comes online, and asks me (politely) what I want, and I again explain, and have to do everything all over again.  She swears to me that I was a "new call" and hadn't been transferred.

I am already not terrible fond of such situations, and my patience wears very thin, very quickly (which is one reason that I mainly let Treasure talk to such people: she's a doll on the phone).

I knew that my voice was letting the Customer Service Rep know that I was on the edge, and likely to become "a problem call".  But I regrouped, and explained to her that I was upset, but that it wasn't her fault, and I understood that.

That broke the ice, and the tension, and she went out of her way to help me, and we shared a few jokes along the way.

Did I flirt with her?  Yeah, a bit, but not with any kind of sexual flavor, only like we were two people who both were in a situation that was difficult, but could work it out together.

And ... I got my crap turned on, and working, and she left with a laugh.
