Probably, this is just a coincidence - tall objects usually attract lightning.

If He is trying to tell us anything by that - I would suspect that this could be interpreted as warning against idolatry - statues, pictures, icons, etc of deities can be considered a form of idolatry and this is against the 2nd God's commandment.

Well folks, I am from Ohio, and passed by that hideous thing more times than I can count, commonly referred to as "Touchdown Jesus", or "Butter Jesus".  When you are passing by it as the sun is setting, it faces the west, it looked like it was made of butter.    As someone said, it was just plain tacky.    From the news reports around here, lightning struck the RIGHT hand.

heh...

Yeah, but I think "dont worship idols" actually had something do do with sex and bulls back when christianity was still competeing with the older religions.

I dont know for sure, christian religion is Shepherds department.

I do know my his story though.

Idol in some interpretations can also mean any statue, including that one of Jesus, including the little crosses some christians always wear.

Hey sex with this Bull is a great thing so I doubt that is the answer, besides the Commandments were give to the Heebs, not the Christians.

he probably just agrees with elizabethanne and the rest of ohio - [8|] - or he was trying to zap elizabethanne (for whatever reason) and hit the statue instead -

Too many angels plugged in their Hitachi's at the same time and blew a fuse?

DarlingSavage -> RE: Could this be a sign from god? (6/15/2010 2:10:29 PM)

I think it's a message to the born agains sayin' they got it ALL wrong and to shut up.  I don't know, there are just so many interpretations of this little event.  But good god, those churches where millions of people attend all those services, then they have the malls inside and everything else that goes on in there, I don't think that's what was intended for sabbath.  I think the idea was supposed to be that everyone could get together and meet up so everyone in the community could know each other.

PeonForHer -> RE: Could this be a sign from god? (6/15/2010 2:18:40 PM)

God was probably just aiming at the pigeons that kept crapping on his son's head.  If he wasn't in a bad enough mood at smashing up his son's statue, the fact that people are now talking about it as a portent will be making him even more pissed off.

Musicmystery -> RE: Could this be a sign from god? (6/15/2010 2:20:39 PM)

Or that the one true God is Zeus?

DarwinsLilHelper -> RE: Could this be a sign from god? (6/15/2010 2:24:52 PM)

A true Atheist like me Just says...Hmmm Some electrons got together and lightning hit a tall object.

To try to make anything else out of it like Idiots proclaiming in their internet sites over Easter "Happy dead Jew on a stick day" is simply childish atheist intolerance and makes atheists and agnostics appear just as arrogant and intolerant as the Muslims or Christian Fundamentalists.

Sadly even atheism has it share of people that can't repress their loud mouthed bigot urges.

Oh good heavens, I didn't realize it was interactive!  I'm going to burn in hell for what I did to him.

I am sad, however, that the subject of the Heywood Banks song, "Big Butter Jesus", is no more.
