I am wondering who enjoys anime and manga.  My daughter loves it and goes to cons when we can afford it (just about broke the bank this last one).

I went to A-kon this past weekend and OMG!  I cannot believe the crowds.  This is about as crowded as Dragoncon in Atlanta if not more.

I was lucky to get a room in the same hotel that the con was at.  Next time, I am going to get a room for 3 nights.  With 2 beds...and a fridge...and tons of snacks instead of 2 small packages of trail mix (I will made at least a gallon next year).

Yea or nay...and this can include hentia as well.

I absolutely hate it.

My daughter is an otaku, goes to tons of conventions every year and I end up getting stuck going along. Being she's an adult now this year, her and her friends are attending the Baltimore convention in July/August but thankfully all I have to do is check them in at the hotel since it's under my name and I don't have to stick around! I'm dropping them off and vamoosing! I don't think I could take another year of dealing with it all. lol

I used to be in love with some of the Pokemon characters and I was in my mid-30 to late 30's at the time...The people I worked with.....well I am not sure what they thought of me..I even had this little hand held game that if if I didn't shake it every so often the Pikachu character might die...but I am not into that stuff anymore but back then I was into Super Nintendo role playing video games too..but i found they took up a lot of my time and made me grumpy when I quit playing...I think that is the beginning of an addiction...I also loved the Mario games....anyway....I have been thinking of buying one of those new Nintendo handheld games but think better of it!  This might not be the same thing so if I answered wrong....excuse me! I am a kid at heart!

I love Anime and Magna, and related things... As far as Cons, the only con I've been to is Otakon, which I've gone to every year except one since 2004, and, it's pretty awesome. ^_^

I'm not a lover of anime, but but I do love it when it's done well. Akira, Ghost In The Shell and Spirited Away stand out in my mind as excellent examples. I went to the 9:40 showing of Ponyo in a giant Imax theater some months ago. I was the only one there, but that didn't bother me, because it was very cute.

Austin hosts 2 amine cons.  The local library hosted a one-day con yesterday and of course, Lizard has to go (luckily it was free...LOL!)

Love MUCH of it. Hating the Kekkaishi that AS is playing after Fullmetal... and hating how they use the same dang actors all the time! There should be yaoi on AS. Just saying.

Spirited Away was fantastic. If anyone wants to see a good movie please watch it, I really enjoyed it and my 18 year old loved it so much he got a copy for himself. Other than that I'm not really a anime/manga fan but I can recognize excellence in any genre.

I think I did seen Spirited Away but I have lost touch with that memory.  I recently got Ace Attorney for Lizard's DSi (i think this kid needs to learn about budgeting time for homework this summer)  If I am having a bad night, I put it on Ghost in the Shell.  I also seen Darkside Blues.

Great to see a thread about anime!

Spirited away was charming--almost anything done by that director is gold. I also loved Lain, Vash Da Stampedo, Loveless, Gankutsuou, Death Note, Hellsing, and Vampire Princess Miyu.
Final Fantasy? Eh. Better than nothing, I suppose. I've heard good things about Revolutionary girl Utena but haven't obtained a copy to watch yet.

What I like about animes are the great storytelling, the emotionally complex plots, the delighttfully strange cultural values, and of course the sheer cuteness.

I've noted Akira and some of the others mentioned. I'll be watching this thread for further suggestions...so by all means make them.

I used to love all of the Manga/anime stuff. Especially Wicked City and Devil Man. Vampire Hunter D is pretty good stuff too, and Fist of the North Star was just excellent. All of which is pretty hard to find at a reasonable price now, unfortunately.

i have an odd love/hate relationship with anime and manga. as for the love part- i read one manga, "Black Cat" because its the only one to successfully keep my interest. This will be the 2nd year I will be going to otakon, i primarily go for the raves, but its intresting to see what goes on during the day. and i was obssessed with "sailor moon" when i was younger. as far as hate: my boyfriend and 90% of his friends are waaaaaay too into it. well really, just his friends are obsessed, he has a healthy balence. but anyway, its all they talk about and laugh at me from time to time for NOT being into it as much as they are. with that comes the people at otakon. Loud, obnoxious, annoying, and do not seem to enjoy bathing. Last year, every half hour, somebody would yell "Butt scratcher!"(from family guy) and i swear 80 people would yell it back...over and over. and henti- i find it hilarious. women who have watermelons from breasts, clits turning into penises...low class entertainment for me.
