Owner59 -> It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 6:04:12 PM)

An unnamed BP official said they discovered damage to the casing below the ocean bottom and substructures of the well.

This subsurface failure was discovered was discovered during the "top kill" procedure where mud was pumped down the well with thousand horse power pumps at hundreds of gallons per minute.

The mud was flowing into the rock formations around the casing from under the surface.

This means it`s possible that nothing can be done until the relief wells are drilled.

At best, they can divert some,....of the crude but that`s it.

The explosion that also killed 11 crew and sank the rig may have made the well un-stop-able.

Heard it on a radio news show so no links. If anyone can help with that, thank you in advance.

I guess that Obama should have gotten the federal government involved a lot sooner. Maybe a little less time on the golf course and the basketball court would have helped ?

Intriguing, isn't it, how our conservative brethren suddenly discover the value of government whenever disaster strikes?

servantforuse -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 6:25:29 PM)

Obama was one of Bush's biggest critics sfter Katrina hit the gulf. Now he is on the golf course and doing nothing. This spill is now his Katrina.

Sanity -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 6:25:36 PM)

The point is the Left's blatant hypocrisy. Imagine the outcry from the left if Bush were in the White House partying the way Obama is while the border spewed illegals, while the budget spewed trillions of our tax dollars, and while the Gulf disaster spewed oil.

Whilst I'm sure it might be perceived as gratifying that the right now apparently perceive Obama as the superman his more fervent supporters viewed him as in the election hype, I think it might be important at this stage to remind those newly struck with such admiration that Superman is a comic book hero and the product of fantasy.

Equally that whilst the right appear to be most taken with fantasy, an examination of their policies proving the point, fantasy is not reality and in the real world we are to identify and deal with grown up problems in a considerate manner fitting of adults.

Do you only open your mouth to change feet?
Do you even read what you post?

Brain -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 6:40:12 PM)

I like this method to stop it,

FTA:
The best way to stop an oil gush? Keep it in the ground. If you think that's impractical, or that it means shivering in the dark, or millions of people without energy, or millions of people without jobs, you'd be forgiven for thinking that. It's the line that we've all been fed by Big Oil and King Coal. It's wrong on all counts.

Our plan to stop the oil: 95% renewables by 2050

Want a way to stop the corruption and pollution that the fossil fuel industry is wreaking on our planet? We've seen a better future, and here's our plan to get there: the Energy [R]evolution.

This article doesn't seem to address how a million +18 wheelers and other trucks will deliver everything in this country. It doesn't explain how jets and other airplanes will fly and how millions of auto will run or what will power the trains in out rail system. Maybe you can tell us how a 747 can fly on wind power.

cadenas -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 7:10:43 PM)

Yeah, it was so much better when Bush continued his vacation right after he was briefed on the severe impact Katrina was about to have. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11627394/

Or when he read "My Pet Goat".

BTW, illegal immigration peaked under Bush; under Obama it has since dropped off dramatically. And it was Bush who created the highest-ever national debt.

Yeah another know it all.

When are you "experts" going to tell us how to fix this?

Or are you guys waiting for election day to reveal the secrete plan?

servantforuse -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 7:24:50 PM)

Obama was the one that said something to the effect that the oceans would part when he got elected. Maybe he ment that the oceans would spill a little of oil when he got elected. At least one pre election promise was fulfilled...

Were you unaware that they can fly on bio-diesel?

DC, what's "intriguing" is why Obama would come out and say that "I'm in charge from now on!" a few weeks ago after the oil had been gushing for a month.
There's twelve federal agencys down there now and noone really knows what's going on and there doesn't seem to be any interagency coordination.
No problem getting 20,000 Troops together to go to Haiti but where are they now? Certainly not on that Mexican border!

This is a leak is 5000 feet below the ocean floor,..... which is 2 miles under the ocean`s surface.

You were a sailor Pop,so tell us.

How do you fix a leak that is 5000 feet below the ocean bottom, that is 2 miles below the ocean`s surface?

We need to hear what solutions Obama`s critics have to offer.

tazzygirl -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 8:09:25 PM)

Now they are talking about leaks beneath the floor surface.

nakedthinker -> RE: It May Be Much Much Worse..... (6/8/2010 8:19:30 PM)

I'm really not looking for arguments here. I only wanted to point out a couple of things that at very least should require some people to do more research...

Modern jet engines actually do not burn diesel. They burn what is essentially kerosene. Does that mean that use of a diesel fuel is not possible? Not at all. However, bio-fuels are not without their environmental issues, and the cost of conversion of existing aircraft to burn an alternative fuel is probably prohibitive. It would be more likely that new aircraft would be designed to use a different fuel and those aircraft would slowly replace the existing ones.

One mile is equal is 5,280 feet.
