Benjamin Franklin was a precise person, among so many other things. This, from his autobiography, was his stated daily routine:

"The precept of Order requiring that every part of my business should have its allotted time, one page in my little book contained the following scheme of employment for the twenty-four hours of a natural day"

This routine allows for 7 hours of sleep and 7 hours of work, leaving 10 hours out of 24. What do you think of it in relation to your own day?

Are you a "routine person?" If so, what does your daily routine look like?

If you are not, how does not having a routine work better for you?

i adapt to the routines of others'. The rest of the world refuses to adapt to mine, and that might be for the better in the name of sanity.

I deeply admire Mr Franklin.

ROUTINE?? Is that like a PLAN? A HABIT??? HAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

So, no. I haz no routine. I get up when I have to get up, stay up late, bumble around, and somehow, stuff gets done. I like making lists, and writing things on postits. (I also like how that looks like POS-TITS!) But I seem to be incapable of forming routines, and always have. Even when I do things like get up to go to work every day. as soon as I don't HAVE to do something, the "routine" is GONE.

Honestly, I do need some kind of structure to my day in terms of goals. "Today I will wash the walls", "Today I will buy groceries and get an oil change". Other than that, it's a free floating wheeeeeeeeeee!!

Which is why I do not work at home.

No routine for me.  I take my meds anywhere between 7p to 10p, be on the computer off and on when I am not doing chores, take Georgie out 2 times a day by leash (he is blind and deaf but the phone gets him to howling...LOL!  We go to town and either go to Curves and/or walk at the park. I get up at various times, depending on how deep my sleep.  I tend to sleep anywhere 10p to 12a, with the wake up time being 5a to 8a.

My routine is pretty basic.
Wake up.
Do stuff.
Get some sleep.

Somewhere in between.....I like things in order so that I can create some space for myself to do whatever comes to mind/satisfy whatever mood I'm in......with a peaceful conscience as I know everything else is in order.

So....the admin....such as bills...chores... etc are always nice and tidy......week nights I'll read...or go to the pub...or go to a mate's house or have mates here....depending what I feel like when I get home from work........and weekends I wait to see what mood I wake up in and then do whatever takes my fancy.

Does it seem remarkable to have 10 hours, more or less, unscheduled? Many days I feel as though I have about 10 minutes with nothing left to be done...

No not remarkable.....it's just good for me to keep on top of things so that I have that time......when work is getting too hectic for example and I'm struggling for time it starts getting to me after a while and I know I need to slow down a little......

10 minutes? well it depends if it suits you...I know people who thrive on being constantly on the go and find it difficult to relax anyway.....doesn't sound like 'poortee' though........aren't you a writer?....you've gotta find time to tend to your passions otherwise what is the point?

Yes, tell me about it. I just started working at home again after a long time of having to go to an office. I like it because I DON"T have to go to an office, but I am finding it hard to be disciplined.

Isn't it obvious? I am back here posting.

Yes, I think I see that too. I don't know anyone who works only 8 hours and I don't know anyone who gets 8 hours of sleep...we all seem to work more and sleep less. Seems backwards but, like you suggest, might be the tail wagging the dog.

It was a tongue-in-cheek sort of "poortee." I absolutely do it to myself. I write all day long; even when I'm posting here I'm writing other places too.

Same. I blame CM!

(Also I'm glad you're back here posting.)

Consider that in Mr Franklin's day there was no electricity, with its attendant ills of good lighting all night, no offices that demanded 24 hour attention, no automobiles that enabled fast travel---for the well-off, it's true that the past held MORE leisure time!

Even if I made a schedule like that, I'd be too disorganized to stick to it.  I stumble out of bed every day and hope for the best.

My day is pretty much the same everyday...wake up at same time, eat breakfast same time, catch bus to work same time, get into work, do the same work day after day in the very precise, exact same way every minute of the day, lunch same time, talk to Master and daughter, end the work day, catch bus home, stop for dinner, come home, do the same things..clean, yell at daughter, check mail, blah blah blah...until it's time to fall asleep and start all over again.

Hell even my bathroom breaks are almost the same time everyday!!

Yeah, I'd say my days are scheduled and routine.
