This is actually a pretty amazing story about a baby hummingbird that these people found on a sidewalk. He couldn't fly, so they took him under their wing. At night, he would come home to their house for safety. During the day, he was in the backyard of the house near where they found him. About 4 days after they found him, he was being held in cupped hands when his mama came by to feed him. She had seen them around, I guess, because she just flew over, perched on the hand and then fed him. This happened a number of times, so they called a friend who was good with a video camera, and he came over to film some of the amazing goings-on.

There's a lot more to this story, but that's enough info to give you some context for the video they posted on YouTube. Here's the link:

That is cool! We have a robin who makes nests in one of our pots on our decks, (and takes care of her young'uns there, but she doesn't like me to get too close...)

We recently had this happen with a baby finch. He fell while learning to fly; not injured, but he couldn't get off the ground. We put him in a big plastic tote, and left a bowl of bugs for 'momma'. There are lots of predators around here, so we brought him in at night. After 4 days, he figured out how to use his wings, and took off.
So cool!

I can't see this right now, but as soon as I can, I can't wait to see it! When I was in Corpus Christi, I got to hold a little hummingbird in my hand once. It was trapped so I caught it and took it out where it was in a more open space. It kept trying to fly into the library window. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this!

Ah   - it was a literary bird!
