I just bought a new E-Machine and I lose the radio feed after about 15 minutes.
Also, Yahoo keeps asking me to "sign in " every hour or so even though I have the box checked that says "keep me signed in for 2 weeks."
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. sometimes the "back" arrow doesn't work.

"I just bought a new E-Machine and "

Nuff said. I will never again buy a preloaded system. Period. The laptops I bought last year are no fun, despite their features. They give me all kinds of shit I don't want, and if I find anything I do want it's a free trial. Shit gets in the way of each other, popups don't even come from the internet, the come right from the three gazillion gig registry, which is almost impossible to edit effectively. Then the restore disks just bring back all the bullshit it took you three months to get rid of.

Just go back and see if you can get a free reload with the software AND ONLY the software you want on it. Problem is you probably can't do that anymore. The whole situation sucks, but let me rephrase that, I'll never buy another preloaded PC again. My next might just be a mac.

That would be the problem right there.

I'd really love a good answer to the yahoo question myself.

I was having trouble with Yahoo disconnecting and restarting. It turned out I had a corrupt hosts file.

Okay, I'm a LONG way from being a computer geek and what I am going on here is pure specualtion...not knoweldge, and I could be WAY off base.

First, when you say you lose the radio feed every 15 minutes or so, does that mean you lose connection to your server? If so, and if you have cookies turned off then I don't think Yahoo could recognize your computer if the server connection is broken, and so it would ask you to sign in once the server is reconnected even if the box is checked....I think.

As far as WHY you would keep loosing connection, is it a new server? Did it work okay with your previous computer? Could it be the modem not being compatable with the new computer? I have Clear and lose the connection frequently and they can't give me a reason for it.

I have no suggestionws about the "back" key unless it is just a poor contact when you hit that key.

That is about all I can think of. Hope it helps, and if not then I hope you at least get the bugs fixed quickly.

huh. I had an emachine for a long time and it worked fine.

I just got a new laptop and whereas my last one logged me out a few times a day (even though I checked "keep me logged in for two weeks...") This one makes me sign in every single time.

i Seriously doubt that the E-machine is the problem, despite the feelings around this particular board. Media that runs on the E-machine will run uniformily on any machine despite it's label, and the last time i checked even a basic one can stream 128kb/s audio files from the internet.

As for the feed problem, you'll have to be more specific. Are you streaming it to your browser or streaming it to a player?
E.G. Using Google Chrome \ Internet Explorer / Firefox as opposed to using Winamp or Itunes or RockBox.

There is a chance that you are pulling it from a stream that pings constantly, and when a certain amount of pings fails the connections stops. All it should take to fix is a CTRL + R or click "file" --> "Refresh Page" or press F5 i believe.

If you are operating it from a browser window, it may be easier / better buffered through something. Try opening the link with an outside audio player. ( right click link, Open with ... )

As for a more permanent solution you could try: A hard boot of the Modem, then the router. ( unplug each for a minimal of 15 seconds, then re-plug ). Then turning your cookies to "accept all", and restarting your browser.

However:

This might be contributing to your problem.

If you are constantly opening and closing internet browser windows ( checking mail from time to time ), you may be opening and storing new cookies; and when you close them you also delete and remove those same files. Thus making you appear to log-out each time - against your will. heh

If it's not that, then your cookies are set to restricted and need to be changed in the preferences of your browser.

But it may be effecting your Radios authentication.

i Would also reccomend that you update your Adobe Flash Player, and make sure your browser is updated as well.

Though i have a feeling that some form of 'clean-up' is preformed every time that your browser is closed. Though you click "keep me logged in", it wipes the name and password upon closing the session.

Well, that could be nothing, or could be something.

If you are using a box with "Windows" on it, and using "Internet Explorer" then i'm afraid it could be a TON of minuscule scripting bugs, a bad java call, or perhaps a nasty virus this way comes. When it comes to microsoft "The world may never know". If it's a firefox problem you might want to check any recently installed addons or plugins. Google, no idea.

And after all that, it could just be your Internet Service Provider placing a stop request after a certain amount of traffic goes through your box. Try listening to the stream in a different quality, to fluctuate the bandwidth required.

Other than that, i'd chalk it up to Yahoo slackin!

If you still encounter issues, link me to the radio-broadcast and i will check to see if their servers are up to snuff! ^_^

My guess is that YAHOO is the problem.   Messenger got so bad I got rid of it 2 years ago. So now nothing is my choice.

What the fuck is an E-Machine?  And no...I don't feel like looking it up myself.  If no one cares to explain it in this thread I will remain blissfully unaware.
