Even so, the toll road operators are going bankrupt because drivers for the most part refuse to use them.

We get that here as well. Most motorists (particularly the HGV drivers who are the people they were set up to stop clogging up congested stretches of motorway in the first place) refuse point blank to use the toll roads that were set up running parallel to particularly busy stretches of Motorway a few years. Short of passing laws to force people onto the wrectched things, they're a waste of space and maintenance bills.

side note:

Tollways are not always faster driving.   294 in Chicago- often people think is faster- but Lagrange/RT45 at times  is faster- with no tolls.

In Ohio- there is a free road that bi-passes 20 miles of the turnpike.  I take it as it pretty much is the same time - but less toll this way- and when they had construction- the free road was noticeably faster.

The clogging up of roads by HGV's should not be the ussue, as they are hauling cargo to the various destinations in the country. What should be the issue, is the number of single occupant private vehicles on the roads, you know tanking great cars with the space they take up with only one person in them, the driver. Ever seen or been in congested traffic and looked through all the rear windows of cars in front and noticed it is relatively few people who are actually causing that congestion. My city often gets grid locked, due to the few roads that come in, and one major route, it is counted to be an average of nineteen people in their cars that stuff that road up. People in cars driving into the centre to seek parking.

Those who have a vehicle to haul families fair enough, but the mind just boggles at those who are a single person, yet seek a monstrous great tank of a car, what is a car designed for many people, driven and occupied by one peson normally.

The next door dude was complaining... our town is getting a new truck plant.  That astonishes me.

1.  how the rigs will turn around- as the space is tight.
2. traffic

...but prior to that was a plant.  and the fumes were nuacios to where I would never live in the north part of town.

So trucks- 50 an hour or day or whatever- will pass my house.

But - I am not too worried- as it will be 2 years before they do this.   Hopefully I can sell by then. I so want to live where I have space-  for intown- I have it nice- but the road drives me nuts.  The bridge in- the road in- and the center road are all ripped up now- I hear a back ho all day long and will all summer.  But they NEVER get done when one lives near a road.

I am hoping my pretty botanical gardens will be my ticket out.   Oh we are getting an amphitheater.   So maybe I can sell to that crowd.

Some days I would live in a camper - --

At least my bills are low.   :-)
