Fae, I started responding, but fell, guess what, ASLEEP ! LOL.

What indeed has put us on this 24 hour cycle, and who is to say that it is right for everyone. Obviously environmental influences were the strongest, but what would happen if the length of the day was different. Would we even notice ? Would we be cognizant of it at all in fact ?

I am not saying if it changed all the sudden, I mean if the Earth just didn't happen to rotate at 1/1440th of an RPM from the beginning.

Exploring that could be interesting but I don't know if this is the time and place because I think the subject could get quite thick on it's own.

I don't believe im an insomniac but I am and always have been a Night person.

My brain just fires up after 2am some nights and sleep just seems less important than pissing away the night in bed and so here I am at 4.45am facing the Mac with a ciggie and a cuppa coffee.

I tend to be at my best with less than 6 hours in bed anyway and I've always maintained that you meet the "Interesting" people in the wee hours.
