Anyone else watch the series finale tonight?

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: Lost (5/23/2010 10:16:39 PM)

Yep. I think I'm still in the "I can't believe it's really over stage" right now.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Lost (5/23/2010 11:24:18 PM)

Yeah. Kinda airy-fairy IMO, but happy endings get my vote no matter how flaky,

Level -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 3:26:55 AM)

Thanks for the answers, ladies. Now... I read that the creators wanted to leave the finale open-ended; so, was it all the dream of a dying man, or did they actually get to "heaven", for lack of a better term? I guess that's the open to interpretation aspect.

Enjoyable, either way. Shows that television can be done well.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 9:19:49 AM)

Yeah, much better than the cluster that was the BSG finale. I was disturbed by bits like what happened to Jack's sweet boy? But such is the nature of time travel stories.

Timey-wimey!

DomKen -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 3:13:59 PM)

I thought it was pretty well done but the questions left unanswered bugged me.

TheBanshee -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 5:58:42 PM)

I loved it - and I kind of like it that they left a few ambiguities -
the symbolism was beautiful.  The emotions it generated were wonderful.  The little items of interest - Eloise asking Desmond if he was going to take her son (Daniel) when he left (no, he wasn't he told her).  Ben didn't go into the church (he wasn't ready to move on or was it that he hadn't yet redeemed himself?).   I'm going to miss discussing this on Wednesdays at work.

Tabularasa87 -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 9:06:29 PM)

I hated that ending with a passion.  I watched the story to find out about the time travel and the smoke monster not so the could all sing kumbya at the end.  RAAAAAHHHHH Abrams!  I am officially making you my Arch Nemisis.

cloudboy -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 9:41:05 PM)

I would say the finale added a whole new twist to the term "touching revelations."

Jack, lying in the bamboo seeing the plane go by overhead was perfectly circular.

My favorite prediction for the end was by a responder on Salon who said, "Locke will go into the light and come out a leprechaun."

Glad Jack was able to "stick it back in the hole" after he'd had been stabbed in the side. The center of the island was mother earth's vagina. It flowed back to life once the phallus was reinserted, and dried up and caused trouble when it was removed. The smoke monster was created for Oedipal reasons, as Jacob's brother was too closely related to the light source.

Rachel368 -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 9:48:20 PM)

I am still in shock that it is over and thoroughly confused.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 10:08:13 PM)

It's finally over?

Now I can download the entire series and watch it back to back.

I hate waiting week to week to see what happens.

Impatient I am. [:)]

I am a romantic sap,so my need for happy endings isa fulfilled, but I am sad that the h'wood machine couldn't do more than phone in cliches after six years of--evidently--making it up as they went along.

Estring -> RE: Lost (5/24/2010 11:50:49 PM)

The alternate endings shown on the Jimmy Kimmel special were pretty funny.

Vendaval -> RE: Lost (5/25/2010 3:35:22 AM)

I have seen random episodes and definitely need to rent the series to make any sense out of it. Since the finale was vague that leaves plenty of room for a movie or 2 for fanboys and girls.

cloudboy -> RE: Lost (5/25/2010 7:49:54 AM)

Heather Havilevsky, the TV critic for Salon, noted that the LOST writers threw out all the rules when writing the show. The question is, did they cross the line and become "ridiculous" or did they become pioneers?

It took me a while to realize that the show was neither an adventure - rescue epic or good guys v. bad guys drama. It was brilliant how Jack, Kate, Hurley, Syaid, Sun, and Ben all decided to go back to the island.

My biggest pet peeve was "filler," having needless, non plot facilitating flashbacks during times I wanted the central story advanced. But, the writers put this practice to bed by setting a deadline for the show --- after which things were kept quite interesting and entertaining at virtually all times.

I surely hope that all my "issues" are being worked out in an alternate universe, and I wonder how I'd cope with life and death struggles on a beautiful island about which I was unaware in my hum-drum existence here. I would also like to experience time travel and visitations with the dead. Sedated travel on a submarine would be cool as well.

It's excruciating. I watched Dexter seasons 1-3 back to back before season 4 started. Waiting each week to see the next episode just plain sucked. One thing I have noticed is that when people watch a series from DVD or whatever in succession like that they often give the writing higher marks. When you watch a show in real time week to week you are more critical of the writing since you have more time to ruminate on each episode.

I never got into Lost. My then-wife-now-ex-wife watched it. I saw parts of a few random episodes but it never spoke to me. Luckily I was saved from that island long before the the Lostees were saved from their. I am currently downloading it for a friend. Maybe I'll check it out one day if I can tear myself away from Will & Grace.

Dexter, there's another excellent series.

Agreed. And I didn't think I would like it. But I was wrong. [:)]

laura2161 -> RE: Lost (5/25/2010 5:46:34 PM)

I watched it. Had to, never missed an episode. I'm a sucker for happy endings but still have questions that now will never be answered.

divi -> RE: Lost (5/25/2010 5:53:02 PM)
