Please any computer geeks out there answer this question.

I sent a message via Y! IM and pressed "Send".

Now I thought better of it and recalled the Y! IM message and deleted it. ( the receip' isn't logged in yet)

It now no longer shows up on my archive.

Does that mean that the message is deleted on the recip's side?

i think it only deletes your record of sending it.

OH FUCKSTICKS!

But thanks SH. for the info.

But Holy Crap......

While this strikes me as funny, clearly it is less so for LB.  Be careful what you send, people may recieve it.

Emails can be unsent before they are opened.  IM's are exactly that:  INSTANT messages.

Yep...Christ I do need to be less spontaneous and more considered in my communications.

I got a deep down gut feeling I'm going to live to regret the last communication I sent.

If you didn't use their name, could you claim to have made a mistake and thought you were sending it to someone else who had messaged you?

But really, if you were that angry, don't they deserve to know how their words and actions have made you feel?

What in the world did you say? You can't leave it like that . . .

By the way, you won't BELIEVE what I just heard from John . . . oh, wait, nevermind.[;)]

"Unsend" is an illusion.  Emails are as instant as instant messages are.

I think you can cancel "e-mails" from one AOL user to another if you can get it before they open it, but those aren't really e-mails. You're right; with real e-mail, once you hit "send" it's gone.

Sadly the best advice is to ensure that there is a working connection with the brain before engaging with the keyboard.

Which of course would mean the end of the Internetz. What would we do then?

Not necessarily.  It depends entirely on the system being used and how it's configured.

If I get chipped for this I'm pleading diminished responsibility.  [sm=couch.gif]

I truly hope you didn't do what I might have done in your shoes; write the ex and tell him you haven't been able to release without him but then finally listened to a tape of his voice, looked at his pic and 'released'.

If you did, it's not going to help him realize how much you need him, it'll only stoke his big domly ego. (not what he needs, probably, am I right?)

If you did do that (which I suspect is the case) put him on block and stay away. If he's a good guy who just wanted to break up for his own reasons he'll stay away anyway. If he's not a good guy, he will use it to his advantage, and it won't lead to you becoming his true one and only...

Put this down to lessons learned.

Was it that obvious.....

Bugger.

Only to those of us who have been there (several times)

Run far away from that one. Someday you'll wonder what you ever saw in him.
