I've always worked in the private sector. Checking transcripts, reference checks, and preemployment drug tests are standard. So I was shocked to see that Harvard, the elite of the Ivy League, didn't even bother to verify transcripts: http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/05/18/massachusetts.harvard.student/index.html?iref=allsearch

I believe there's a special circle in hell reserved for plagiarists.
