Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

The world is a little worse off today, thanks for the memories, you were one of the greatest.

ElectraGlide -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/16/2010 3:41:00 PM)

Wow I did not know. I saw him 4 times in the 80's in concert, twice with Sabbath and twice solo. He will be missed, the man had a great voice for Metal and Hard Rock.

Gotta have this one in the tribute collection.

So who is the ugliest person in heavy metal now?

Next time I'll start a Judy Garland thread for ya.

Musicmystery -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/16/2010 7:29:17 PM)

He's a local--I remember him from Elf. Nice guy.

ElectraGlide -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/16/2010 9:19:58 PM)

This hit me hard. Not many Metal Gods of Dio's stature have passed away after a long successful career. They either fade away washed up, or they pass away at a young age in the back seat of a car before their time. Dio left at the top of his game.

Dio left at the top of his game.

If the game was Ren Faires and celtic albums... C'mon man. He was an amazing performer and vocalist 25-35 years ago, but the pipes have been gone a while.

damn.. bummer.  There goes a piece of my teens/20s..

RIP, Ronnie.

hejira92 -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/17/2010 4:04:22 PM)

We got the news as our plane was landing in Ft Lauderdale after Red's Birthdaypalooza.

Without thinking about where we were, knowing how upset He would be at the news, I exclaimed, "I'm so sorry, Sir!"

Sir said the woman on His other side gave Him the weirdest look that said- Did I just hear what I think I heard?

GoddessImaginos -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/17/2010 4:22:37 PM)

I was too busy grieving for this man and having relationship issues to even notice that someone had made this thread before I could get around to it, thank you subrob.
[:(][&:][:o]
I saw this man in concert four times, just like ElectraGlide did, and have been listening to him since about 1981 or so (I have an old GF from back home in CA who used to work publicity for bands out of LA, and because of her, at two of these events, I went backstage. Those were the days..). His lyrics and energy contributed profoundly to My personal evolution. He would admonish us for our grief, I bet. Death is part of life, of course. Nothing is ever lost; it only returns to the source, and in this case, death was a mercy (stomach cancer is a double-plus sonuvabitch. What upsets Me is that I had no idea he was even ill; all I ever heard about is this tour or that album release that was coming up. No more.).
Over at the DIO page at Facebook and on My own profile there, I left My gratitude and this piece of My heart for all to see. Facebook folk, please be invited as per the instruction by Ms. Wendy (his wife and manager) to come there and share your thoughts, also.
**To RJD: semper vive, and thank you for everything. 93/93 Blessed Be.**

OrpheusAgonistes -> RE: RIP Ronnie James Dio (5/17/2010 4:29:48 PM)

Awfully sad.

I know it isn't what he's best known or best loved for, but I'll always most appreciate Dio's tenure in Elf.  Ain't it all Amusing will always remind me of some very long nights drinking in some pretty seedy parts of London.

By most accounts he seems to have been a really good guy, and in his prime he was phenomenally good at what he was trying to do.
