There has been a lot of hype about people being able to control your computer camera with only knowing your YIM or Windows Messaging.

So how do you check to see if someone has access to your camera and is controlling it without your knowledge.

I notice my camera light goes on and off for no reason and now it is covered with tape.

So what do you do

I had this problem for the first time two days ago. I don't know how to stop access, but I've found that blu-tac leaves less residue than tape and I can take it off more easily when I want to use the camera.

install comodo fire wall (its free, use the ports stealth wizard and shutdown ALL inbound connections)

put a piece of black tape over the lens.

You make sure your cam access is only to those you allow. You have to be aware there are hacker programs that can be used against you, either by someone who knows you OR total strangers. You make sure to CHECK who's viewing your cam in case it is hacked. You don't do anything on cam that you don't want to get caught doing. You create a separate account and hide it so that access can't be granted. You UNPLUG your cam. Take your pick, I've gone with the unplugged cam, can't access it if it's not there to hack.

I don't use the damned thing anyway, so this is the option I went with. [:D]

No webcam = no worries. If I had one though, it seems a post-it note would be sufficient.

Believe me, if my main laptop had come with the thing, I wouldn't have one at all. [:'(]
