Peg...i hear you, but honestly, if a doctor allows an insurance company to dictate when/how he responds to his patients, he is not a doctor...he is a business man. I would not just walk away from him, i would run.



We are in complete agreement sirsholly. Sadly, it can be quite a challenge finding a doctor who is devoted to the practice of medicine - the actual care of patients. It is worth the effort, though.

The difficulty is that for the doctors who do return calls and do take time with each patient they often get used and taken advantage of by these very same patients. 

(speaking as the daughter of one of these old-style doctors who would have patients turning up at home on weekends for minor problems, or accosting him at shopping centres wanting him to write a script to save them going into the clinic or ringing the clinic and saying they had an emergency and needed to talk with him urgently only to find that they wanted some free advice....I have a thousand of these stories)

Status: offline 		Where do you all live that your doctor gives out his pager and cell phone number??  If i need to speak to my doctor I have to call his office and speak to the nurse first and she relays my problem to him and I wait to either hear back from her or get a call from him.

Status: offline 		I've given up and now go to a practice. You have to wait weeks to see your regular doctor but if you come down with a sinus infection or such, there's an urgent care guy who will see you.

Status: offline 		It is all about finding the right doctor, and of course, never ever abusing the information. I even have our dentist's home and cell numbers. I've never used them, but I love that he gave them to me.

Status: offline 		This problem can be easily solved, by just not paying any outstanding bill you have with your doctor.  Someone from his office will contact you immediately as your payment comes due and they get nothing.  You will not only get a Howdy do, but a are you OK and can you walk (obviously they will want you to walk to the nearest bank teller and get them their money, but still the thought will be there).

Actually, I just started going to this doc (Naturopath), she gave me her email address and asked me to let her know how things are going as well as to use this to schedule or confirm appointments.  I've sent one email.

My other doc (GP) is one I've gone to for 15 years, the guy emails me probably once a week to ask how things are going (I'm not ill, he's just a very caring doc) and he calls me on my cell probably every 6 - 8 weeks just to make sure I'm well.

Now THAT's the kind of doc I like!

Mine has a platform.  So it is more private.  For instance it wont allow a cut and paste.
