MasterJohnSteed -> Harry Dresden LIVES! (4/27/2010 5:54:59 PM)

I have recently become obsessed by the Dresden Files, No Not the crappy Sci-Fi Channel series but the books. They are smart, funny and a great read.   I just finished "Changes" the latest book and with out giving away the ending. It made the end of The Sopranos looks pale in comparison, This is the first time, I have ever screamed "Son of a bitch" (Refering to the author for the ending) for atleast 5 minutes or more.   So my question or questions are thus:
  1. are you a Dresden fan too?
  2. what are you going to do while waiting for "Side Jobs" and "Ghost Story" to be published
  3. what do you think is going to happen to Harry from here?

I never heard of him.

I'd like a prequel...back before Storm Front. He has only talked about his youth...I'd like a childhood book.

As good as the Dresden Files are I liked Codex series even better...I think there will be one more at least in the future.

The Codex is complete Butch. First Lords Fury was the final one.
The Dresden Files are going to be 23 books (up from 20 because of slower progression in the overall arc than Jim Butcher planned) and a final apocalyptic trilogy.

I am pretty sure that Harry survives. My little pet theory is, that he is dead for a moment before being revived by a returning Murphy. The small stint into death will however suffice to free him from the mantle of the winter night, thus pissing of Mab epically.

At a book signing recently Jim told that he had to send the first 3 chapters of the next book to the publisher to convince them that all was going to turn out well, and that they could go ahead and publish the ending as he wrote it.

There are some interesting discussions at the Jim Butcher forum

ok, never heard of him, but dammit, now I gotta try and find it at the library!  Sounds like I could get into these!

The TV series was actually very good, when you consider how difficult it was to make, but the books are better. I would say that the first six are very good but then the quality of the wriitng dissolves and they get lazy, Butcher admits that he writes most of them in snatches in the corner of the room while playing role games and trust me, it shows. I won't be buying any more until the man takes a bit more care of them.
It's never a good idea to give a writer or performer unqulaified praise, laurels are very comfortable and they often end up resting on them.
I would suggest reading William Hope Hodgeson's Carnacki books, which are stunning when you consider when they were written, and look up the bio of the guy on the net, it is a great story in itself.
Harry, Bob and Mouse will always have a good reception here, but as I say, I think Jim Butcher needs to give his work more priority. Which can't be a bad thing.

I’m not so sure… In the last chapter he reminds us that Canea is still occupied by the Vord and says there will be a reckoning in the future. Damn I sound like a little kid…but his books are good fiction and a good read for all ages.

The author stated that it is complete. Sorry.

Ohh I heard about the Dresden Files the other week, and have just bought my first book off ebay to read... am looking forward to it mightily.
Yay to geeks!

I followed the series when they first came out, but fell behind around Storm Front.

I loved the Scifi series, and wish they would have given it a second season, but we're talking about a crap ass network.

At the time I drove trucks, so I got the books on tape out of order, I started with Grave Peril, then found Full Moon & finally found Storm Front. That's about the time I switched careers and went into LE

Oh Indeed your right, I mean Harry saw the white light, heard his mom, Cassius's death threat etc. I am totally sure that this will piss Mab off royally because that the power flowed back to her the minute Harry dies. My one thing is Why is the next story called "Ghost Story"

"I have a Bad Feeling about this"

Indeed, Its Phillip Marlowe meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Heck, I've all ready infected a Co-Worker with the Dresden bug. He came up to me after I loaned him the first three books and was like a Junkie "I Need More Dresden Man"

Nah, there are too many books left in the series to let Harry truly die. I could fathom him hanging in some kind of limbo for this on book though.

Or it could just be Jim Butchers sadistic streak coming through. He knows that after this ending, a title like "Ghost Stories" is going to have the fans nervous and slightly panicky till the next year.

thornhappy -> RE: Harry Dresden LIVES! (4/30/2010 5:16:17 PM)

I saw his latest in the DFW airport...I think the title was "Changes".  It's not on the Kindle yet.

MasterJohnSteed -> RE: Harry Dresden LIVES! (4/30/2010 5:40:47 PM)

Anyone have any Idea what your going to do till Ghost story comes out??
