Do you 'read' people ? Are there any tells of body language you watch for when meeting people ? Is it a major part of judging a situation ?

I love people watching and can pass many a happy hour doing so.
When I'm old and put into a nursing home, I want to have a bedroom window looking over a busy street!!

I tend to notice body language, especially with people I don't know so well. Its interesting to see if you can get them to mirror your own body language.
I would say that its possibly a subconscious way of judging a situation but I'm normally too busy deciding if I like them to worry about them liking me.

To me, it just seems to reaffirm that we humans are still animals.

i watch people talk, seeing if their eyes match the conviction to which they speak. Talking on the phone is so strange to me, because one misses all the nonverbal components of the conversation.

I watch people's eyes, looking for either too much or too little movement.

Yes watching another person's eyes is quite interesting though I find I also listen to what the person is saying in conjunction with the manner in which they make any statement. I find that listening to a person's speech patterns reveals a lot more of who there are that they themselves don't realize.

Body Language

Video can be downloaded here, but it's not on youtube. Just scroll to the bottom of the page, it's still hilarious.

Quite true. I'm sure I do things in that manner that I don't even realize.

Of course, if the person has tourette's, it kind of goes out of the window. Found that out myself, and boy, did it throw me for a loop.

Not everyone reads the same, body language experts like to assume things but it obviously relates to upbringing and that's unique for each individual.

I think there is a lot of misinformation floating about as to what certain signs mean.

Yes I 'read' people - facial expressions, I pick up on what they project outwards and emotional cues and signals and also what 'feeling' or 'vibe' I can pick up.
