(April 24) -- A homeless man who was stabbed while saving a woman from a knife-wielding attacker lay dying in a pool of his own blood for more than an hour while several New Yorkers walked past without calling for help.

Surveillance video obtained by the New York Post shows that some passers-by paused to gawk at Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax early Sunday morning and yet kept on walking.

How VERY SAD and just another example of how cold and into themselves people have become.

Another reminder of why I really don't like that city very much.

I don't either.  Once when I was a young teen, I opened a door for a woman in NYC, without even thinking.  She thought I was trying to pick her up and caused a minor scene.

Being NYC...somehow I am not surprised.

Oh, c'mon, Steven, you know you were tryin' to pick that lady up.

Why didn't the woman he saved call somebody?

Level -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 4:00:22 PM)

Good question [>:]

This wouldn't have happened here.

Dysfunctional environment breeds dysfunctional people.

How can people just be so cold.

marie2 -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 6:17:45 PM)

It's NY for pete's sake. I'm surprised someone didn't strip the clothes off his back while he was bleeding to death.

rajaa -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 6:21:40 PM)

that would never happen here either...

FR

There will be more of this as the overpopulation grows and we find ourselves further and further away from one another.

Mark my words - it is going to get alot worse. This does not surprise me at all. In this town you could be on fire and they will just walk past you, and let you burn to death. Even some firemen would I suspect, but I will not assert that.

I had a similar incident in Greenwich, UK, a few years ago. In the middle of summer, in the middle of Greenwich on a Saturday afternoon with lots of people around I found a man in his mid-20's unconscious in a gutter. People were walking past him. I went to check him and roll him on his side so that he could breathe and found that he was lying in a puddle of blood, had been hit in the head (mugged) and must have been lying there for quite a while. I felt like yelling at the people that stopped to stare: he could have been their brother, father, husband or son. I don't understand how people can just walk past in that situation without stopping. Even if he had been drunk or stoned, it would still cost nothing to roll him over, check his airway and get an ambulance.

Why weren't those cameras working then ? Hell, they could've sent help and additionally fined many for violating the good samaritan law there. Something smells fishy.

How disgusting. I read this and thought to myself "this is the America we left home for?", but that's not fair. Is that we have become?

SweetDommes -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 9:33:04 PM)

It's a form of the mob-mentality. Everyone things that someone else will do something - that it's not their business, that it's someone else's job to do these things. That's why the gang-rape of a young female happened not too long ago ... with people watching and not a damn person doing anything about it until it was long over and another girl heard someone talking about it. She was the only one who did the right thing and called the police about it.

hlen5 -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 9:51:03 PM)

There is research to suggest that the more people there are observing something, the less likely it is that any individual will do something. Everyone is waiting for someone else to do something.

I'm not going to go to the links provided, the description in the post is enough to sicken me.

Termyn8or -> RE: This literally made me feel sick to my stomach (4/25/2010 10:09:31 PM)

hlen, I hate to get like this, but I am from a totally different background than most. You know you can walk into a crowded bar and blow someone's head off and most likely get away with it. And the more crowded the better because there will be that many more descriptions and recollections of the event. Investigators will be more confused.

That's part of what I meant by the closer we get packed in by overpopulation, the further we grow from one another. Just another point to make a point. Probably noone will get it anyway, but soon I'll br off to bed, so nothing will matter until tomorrow.
