We/we had some interesting results playing with this, would love some feed back on your results and thoughts on this

Clockwise is easier for me than anticlockwise. The latter for me requires some effort of will. It used to be easier to switch rotation direction in the past.

Hey, thanks for that one!

Clockwise here...

FYI, if anyone wants to save the pic, you can save it normally (right-click, select "Save Picture As") but, you will most likely have to open it with your browser to see the animation run.

both

LadyAngelika -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 10:32:05 AM)

Both for me as well. At first, it was running clockwise. And then I looked at the text on the left (the analytical side of my brain kicked in) and when I glanced back, it was counter-clockwise.

Neat.

Clockwise but for a second I thought she had switched and went anti-clockwise. So I stared at it some more and saw clockwise.

Interesting....

I watched just her ponytail, and she starts out one direction, does a jerky little glitch and starts going the other way, then does the little jerk again and back to the original direction. It has nothing to do with right-brain vs. left brain, it's just that the animation is going back and forth. Clever, though. The directive to look away is just like the misdirection in a stage magic show, so you don't notice the switch. [;)]

intenze -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 10:43:10 AM)

both for me, back and forth. Are you sure this isnt a trick?

TreasureKY -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 10:46:16 AM)

Interesting.  For me, it would switch back and forth every few random revolutions.  I began to doubt that it wasn't two different animations switching because the picture would "flicker", then change.  I asked Firm to join me and he, too, observed it changing from one direction to the other.  There were, however, instances where I was seeing it turn clockwise when he said it was moving counter-clockwise, and visa versa, so no animation change.  Just perception.

As I said, interesting.

LadyAngelika -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 11:13:05 AM)

I had to take the animated gif apart frame by frame in Fireworks. It is a loop that doesn't switch back. And then of course, I noticed that someone had done the exact same thing and posted it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spinning_Dancer

Also, this blog post might explain what is going on a bit more: http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=27

I can watch it spinning in both directions, and when I focus it doesn't change. First it was clockwise but then when I blinked it was anti-clockwise.

And I'm rather nutty at times.

pyroaquatic -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 3:56:55 PM)

WHAT? Why is it going both ways? That is confusing.

Aneirin -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 5:03:19 PM)

Clockwise at first, I suppose because the mind was on what the subject was, but when reading the text, the object changed to counterclockwise. Looking back at the subject, the subject again changed to clockwise. Switch attention between subject and text, the subject appears to move between clockwise and counterclockwise depending on where the focus was. To note, it was not concentration, but relaxed focus on it or other.

So left/right brain thinking, my thoughts are I perhaps think in one direction for explanations and another direction for demonstation, which would figure well considering the problems I am having with my college work, I can do and do well with practical work, but academia on trhe subject I cannot see the logic.

I have done various left/right brain thinking exercises to determine which side of my brain is the laziest, the result are usually 60/40 right/left or 40/60 right/left, so from results over the years, I get it, as an average, I am 50/50, no hemisphere dominant.

No wonder I am so indecisive.

twistedwillow -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 6:11:08 PM)

Clockwise here ... tried for 10 mins to get her to go the other way, but no dice, not even a waver.
Edited to add: She is a cow, the kidlet called me and when I came back she had swapped directions.
And now, while I cannot make her change direction, she does every so often.

Jeffff -> RE: Dancing lady (4/18/2010 6:22:25 PM)

Clockwise here, non stop, rather fast.

I have no left brain.

She was also waving at me.

I noticed this as I was having a drink.
