I have found wallies fresh groceries (as opposed to the boxed and canned and bagged shit) to be outrageously expensive. So I don't (and never have) bought them.

It's the last resort of last resorts for me for the same reason.

I'd like to see a list of the 31 items they compared. I also think the comparison is a bit flawed in that even with Whole Foods' price drop and Wal Mart's increase I'll bet WM was still cheaper overall.

That was mentioned at the end of the piece DI....IIRC Wal-Mart  is 12% cheaper than other wholesalers...whereas Whole Foods was 14% more expensive.

No.

We have a surplus store locally owned.  It is cheaper.

So, Walmart is actually 2% higher. I've not found the Walmart to be cheaper, and I rather give my money to the local guy, rather than to the Maoists.

Cheap commented on things like that - Walmart will have some really outstanding buys, but the rest are the same price or higher than the competition.  Recently they were also found to have fewer sizes of products too (that was a surprise to me, I figured they have room for a wider assortment.)

Not sure how it is in the US but here in the UK in supermarkets all the prices change on most of the products by the day. Many products are more expensive on Fridays and Saturdays and cheaper on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It's usual, just like they wash the fresh meat every few hours in washing up liquid to make it look fresher and the roast chickens are chickens which are past their sell by date (but not their use by date).

They also have self-service checkouts which are often infuriating to use. It's like having a customs officer checking your shopping.
