Lockit -> Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 4:49:13 PM)

I can't take the time to get the link again or go backwards as I am in reformatting/external hard drive/microsoft hell here. But thought I would send out a warning to you vista user's.

If you haven't done all the fixes and updates for vista, from microsoft (hell) all support will be ended. You must get your updates done before the 13th or you cannot use their support.

Check their site for vista... Going back to my hell...

You got to be kidding?

Lockit -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 5:04:52 PM)

I just got an email from someone that said that microsoft is offering all vista users an upgrade to win7. I don't know if it is true or not, but that's what he said. My comp is an HP and those devils said that they won't support he machine if we upgrade! They did something that made the vista even more hellish from what an expert told me when he worked on my machine way back when I was pleading for help here on the boards. lol He worked on my machine for five hours and told me to nurse it and replace it as soon as I could. lol

I am not sure if microsoft meant all fixes and updates... forgive me if I misspoke because I have been dealing with this hell night and day and am tired. They may only mean certain ones.

pahunkboy -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 5:09:19 PM)

I did not want Vista to start with. I still like XP.

And they can keep win 7.

IMO

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 5:34:11 PM)

What they mean is that people who don't have a service pack by that date won't get updates on the secuity software not that the support team won't help.  Read the whole story, off their website, here

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/end-support-windows-xp-sp2-windows-vista-without-service-packs?os=vista

Lockit -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 5:44:33 PM)

I just read the bit near what I was doing and that didn't explain it all.

Still, there is something wrong with that! What about people who don't get the sp2 in time, but would do it later if it meant software support? What a scam or avoidance of serving those of us who live with vista hell. I may not get what the deal is, but I don't think much of this except to say... bad product... bad service all along and they have fucked up many of my days since I bought the damn thing.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 6:23:56 PM)

Sssshhhhhh Lockit, stop and breathe for a second lol. If you click Start and type "winver" into the search it will tell you which version of Vista you are running. The chances are you already have sp2 which is cool, you will continue to get updates on the security stuff - which is what this is all about.

This has nothing to do with their support team, nothing will change there.

thishereboi -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 6:54:51 PM)

I did it and it says version 6 (build 6002: service pack 2) so I should be ok. right?

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 7:17:42 PM)

If I'm understanding it right, yes you are.  In any case this does not apply to support if there is a problem wit your 'puter.  We will still be able to contact support.

Lockit -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 7:40:39 PM)

Zeph.. lol... I covered my ass before I decided I had to reformat and then after I reformatted. lol Had I not gotten some lil bug, I would never have found out and would have been too late. I was advised not to do the updates because every time I did, I had problems and had to uninstall them. With this software... you need support of whatever kind. It only took me six times with their support with someone who couldn't understand English and threatening/belittling/cursing/insisting and then using very legal terms, to get the bootable disk for vista.

Now I have used it and am working on finding my everything on an external hard drive. I am advertising for a special casual partner's butt to beat after this! And believe me... I'm suckin air... lol

DesFIP -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 8:22:14 PM)

Patting self on back for sticking with XP when I got this computer.

Termyn8or -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/11/2010 9:29:30 PM)

That is one of my pet peeves. They string you along, you need new software, then you need new hardware, then you need new software, then you need new hardware - ad infinitum.

I'd still be using 98SE if I didn't have to reload it and they wouldn't help me setup my router.

Wait a minute, what did I just say ? I prefer an OS that crashed and burned ?

That's pretty bad.

Makes me glad that I decided to just upgrade to the 64 bit version of 7 when I get the new machine for learning autocad set up.

That's because vista sucks and even they know it. They're trying to distance themselves from it as much as possible. I'll be switching to 7 just as soon as I can manage it (hopefully on a new computer without any remnant of the nasty vista-virus anywhere on the machine....how's that for OCD?).

Aneirin -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/12/2010 5:32:22 AM)

I just did the winver on my machine and I am still on SP1, but I have blocked any update from microsoft, I only allow updates from HP. The reason I have blocked m$ is because of SP1, when I downloaded that, it made such a mess of everything, I initially booted it off to get my functions back. Later I got SP1 from HP and it did not have the same problems. I am just too wary about M$ products now, I don't trust the company and will be migrating away from M$ just as soon as I can. Vista  did it for me, I jumped from 98SE to Vista and I was sorely disappointed, what a pile of junk. Anyway with any luck, I will be getting a Macbook in a few weeks time.

I know about the win7 upgrade, but as far as I am concerned, m$ can go and boil their head on that one, I don't want it, I don't want micro shaft, for with vista, they have blown it with me.

BrokenSaint -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/12/2010 5:43:28 AM)

Hopefully all this business drives more people to things like opensuse and ubuntu.

Aneirin -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/12/2010 5:47:54 AM)

It probably will, for it has taken my interest from time to time, and with a Mac, I may very well try the other things out there. I do have around here somewhere a Linux XP Desktop disc, and a complete XP pro SP3 operating system which will go on this machine just as soon as I have another computer, not doing it until I have a back up.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Microsoft stopping support for vista April 13 (4/12/2010 7:10:53 AM)

I have windows 7 so I don't have to worry about updates for Vomit and XP.  It has been smooth sailing since I got this computer.

Mike, to reformat means I am deleting everything on the computer, even though you can't delete everything... you get most off and it would take an expert to get to anything left there. You then re-install the operating system and all else. So basically you are trying to get your computer to a new state like it was when you got it. If your computer is okay as in the parts all working, it should work better. It's basically a last resort in my opinion.

If you check the microsoft site or the link Zeph provided, you can get the details which I am sketchy on. If you have got the sp2 or whatever it says, you will get support as normal, but if you haven't gotten it, you will lose software support from what Zeph says. Since your machine is made by someone else, I would assume and have been through this when the first xp came out that if there is a problem, microsoft will send you to the computer maker and the computer maker will send you to microsoft, no one wanting to deal with the problem. They are basically trying to get rid of vista hell user's.

So why did I do it to myself twice? I couldn't afford a mac and I had a mean ol person in my other computer and couldn't get him out and needed a computer badly. Those that helped me with the mean ol person in my computer convinced me that vista was good and hp had improved things and I would be okay. They were so helpful before, I trusted them. I also learned a big lesson I am still paying for. lol

Don't be scared... just go see if you have the sp2 or whatever before the thirteenth.
