ORIGINAL: KatyLied Help explain please. They are already talking about extending McNabb. He had one year left on his contract when he was traded, Does this one year follow him with his new team and then he is free? Is that why the rush to extend him immediately? Or is it a good faith effort thing? The existing contract remains and is what he will play under this season. I suspect the extension push has two reasons: first, 2010 is a non-capped year (as much as the pitiful NFL salary "cap" is) so if Snyder wants, he can currently front-load a contract, which given that he's been trying to purchase a Superbowl win since he bought the Redskins fits his MO. Second, if teams have a player they want to keep, and particularly at a position like QB, WR etc. they seem to want to sign extensions while the contract is still in effect. It avoids somewhat the nasty hold out-type of negotiations agents seem to like to do for their clients. TS
